Paul, thanks. I was interested in improved performance but with the current prices I also need to think of mileage. It seems you are still doing very good with the changes. I guess I have a split personality when it comes to driving...I am either driving hard AutoX or Dr EDU... or trying to minimize expenses with high milage. It is very good that the Porsche can do both.

Mostly the FUN factor takes over. How do you drive one of these things - shifting at 3,500 RPM, and keeping it in the highest gear possible to conserve mileage.

This ain't no damn economy car!@!!!!! In January - after the tax break takes effect, I'm selling my Lexus to buy a Toyota Prius. Then I can be environmentally conscientious, and still be Peter Pan.

1983sc, last tank was 21mpg.

20 mpg highway. 15 in town. 81sc with no o2 sensor. I should put the sensor back and gain 2-4 mpg. Oh, 7mpg on the track. ;) I put only few miles on it, so it is tuned for power.

edit: for town / interstate driving, I went to 87 octane. Track I keep it at 91. Stock timing.

I may put the cat back in to run the O2 sensor to see if I can get better mileage.

The car surges with the O2 sensor connected with the cat bypass.

I bought a new (2005) Ford F150 last February to haul the dirtbikes, to use on Home Depot runs, and to keep some of the miles off my 1987 Carrera. The F150 gets about 15 mpg city/hwy combined. I think my Carrera gets about 20mpg combined. If gas goes up much more, the F150 is going to become a regular fixture in the driveway!

FWIW: I live in Los Angeles County. I paid 8 cents more to fill up this morning than I did the night before. I went back a couple hours latter and gas had gone up another 5 cents per gallon. That is a 13 cent increase in less than 24 hours! 91 Octane (Mobil Supreme) is $3.13 per gallon.

88 911 19-20 in town driven hard 80% of the time and just got back from a 1000 mile trip, going there 26 @ 90 and on the way home 28 @ 85-90 wind was in the right direction. SW chip, 91 octane :D

Same thing here. My wife drives an F150. She enjoys the 911 anyway, but now she has the perfect excuse to take it to work instead of the truck.

1987/stock 930 coupe/70K mi/ 12 mpg when running hard, 24-25 mpg highway

88 Targa 99kmiles with no known majior repairs 20-22 mpg I always use the cheap stuff:eek:

1986/stock sunroof coupe/113,000 mi/avg. 23 mpg. Way better than the 15 mpg in my truck.

I can't seem to get any better than 15 mpg with my car.

1968/911S/~60,000 km on rebuild with 2.7 P/C's, K&N air filters, headers, 17mpg with a heavy foot

Do not know what it would be if i went easy on it but with a tank of 120 octane leaded race gas i have no illusions that this is anything other than a toy/pastime. I think i get about 16 mpg average but my smile makes up the diference between this and my saab daily driver.

'77 911S 2.7 stock: Just got back last night from a 4,473 km (2,750 mi) trip to the west coast - mostly through the Rockies. Overall average was 11.2 L/100 km (21 mpg). Average highway speed was 130-140 kph (80-85 mph) with many runs higher, including a very sprited 500 km (300 mi) run with 8-10 other 911's through the mountains. :-)

Oh btw, last measured trip: 23-25 @ 70-75 mph avg 300 miles (and that's with the dreaded SW Chip and the O2 disconnected!

My suggestion is that if you are getting 23.2 mpg with MFI in a 69E, that you don't touch the injection. That's twice what I am getting!!!! What makes you think that your injection needs tweaking??

Am I the only one getting this low milage? I'm in Los Angeles, and 'in town' usually means a lot of stop-go-and-idle, but I'm starting to wonder based on what others here are reporting that I may have a hole in my fuel tank!

'84 3.2 with Steve Wong chip, otherwise stock. About 18 in town, mid-20's on the highway at quasi-legal speeds (i.e. keeping up with the rest of the traffic).

You bet I do. Noticing a change in mileage is a good way to catch some types of problems.

Sounds like your car might be running pretty rich. I can't recall if an '80 has an oxygen sensor or not. If it does, that would be the first thing I'd suspect, since when they go bad they generally fail to full rich on the mixture.

Track car 6-7 mpg of 110 leaded.
Road car 17ish hway and 7ish flogging it.

About 8 MPG during "Italian Tune Up" :p

1981 SC, 150k, Chevron regular - 20-22 mpg in mixed driving. Throw an autocross into the mix and it usually drops to around 18 mpg.
