I get about 18 miles, and fifty grins, per gallon.

Bill Douglas 03-07-2022 09:33 AM

My SC ROW could have a fuel efficient MPG if I drove it mildly.

But I feel it's better economy to drive the car the way it wants to be driven and not have to pay for a carboned up engine to be rebuilt.

Mr. Merk 03-07-2022 11:17 AM

my '88 with spoilers got 27mpg on the stock wheels with sticky tires and a high flow muffler while road-tripping with two people in the car

more recently it got 24mpg on 8's & 9's with really sticky tires driving solo on the same road trip

proporsche 03-07-2022 11:24 AM

interesting post...honestly i have never ever worried about the MPG..in 25 years;-)

I saw a recent post on another car forum that said if your car got 10mpg and fuel doubles would you care? Most admitted they wouldnt since they only drove about 5000 miles at the most.

cabmandone 03-07-2022 12:02 PM

I penciled out at 27mpg on a drive out to see my brother a few years ago. There was a lot of playing done along Route 50. Hindsight being what it is, I wish I had played a little less. I ran out of gas about a mile and a half from the gas station I was planning to stop at! Nothing like stopping in someone's driveway in a Porsche 911 and asking "can I buy some gas from you?" Lesson? When the fuel level shows low, just fill up. The warning light might not work.

Trust the light, not the meter. At least...when the bulb is working.

Umm. That's the mistake I made. GF and the AA man gave me so much (good natured) grief about it.

Blacklogdeer 03-07-2022 02:38 PM

2.7 RSR Build 10mpg, 77 S 2.7 Webers SSI's 20mpg. 100+- miles a year, So doesn't matter!!

Yeah once my light came on even though the gauge was still at a quarter. About shat myself. The gauge got stuck for some reason.

This part summer while running a well tuned and performing CIS on my stock 77 I clocked 28mpg driving from Chicago to Milwaukee at the speed limit due to the numerous lawmen maki g the state it’s money.

On the way back my mileage dropped precipitously but my speed was 3 digits the whole way.

Hi_Fi_Guy 03-07-2022 04:12 PM

1971 2.2 running PMO carbs and SSI’s. I average around 22.5 MPG.

icarp 03-07-2022 04:14 PM

1980 911 sc RS clone 3.0 with kermit cams , and manual WUR , 229 hp @ crank, 15" wheels
On the hiway I get 28 mpg @ 80 mph , I can make 575 miles with out running out of gas .
I love this car , 65,000 miles in last three years

81 911 sc, 3.6 conversion, 2150 lbs.
Normal driving I get around 22mpg

Synchro Joe 03-07-2022 06:00 PM

'88 3.2 with 190k, Steve Wong chip, cat bypass and M & K exhaust.
Get 18-19 puttering around town and 22-25 cruising. Got a whopping 26.7 MPG across NV and Utah using cruise control. Rarely track my gas mileage, but do on occasions to keep an eye on things.

tk_008 03-08-2022 03:03 AM

2.7 with RS P&C, E cams and 40mm PMOs. On track at Mont Tremblant/St Jovite maybe 4-5 mpg. 4 20 minute sessions drain it!

911SauCy 03-08-2022 05:38 AM

'82 euro spec 3.0, cams, headers, tricky tuning... Over a 1000 mi road trip above 4000k rpm the entire way, it average 24mpg

GH85Carrera 03-08-2022 06:19 AM

1985 3.2 Carrera with Steve Wong chip, 964 cams, and a replaced 5th gear from earlier 911 to give me a taller 5th gear. I do make long trips and at 75 and 80 (legal limit in parts of Oklahoma) I can roll along at 2,800 to 3,000 RPM and get 27 MPG.

For my return trips I always plan a fuel stop about 500 miles from home. With so many states requiring 10% gasohol I want to fill up at home with 100% gasoline. I can go 500+ miles using 10% corn gas.

I have the stock 5th gear I guess I need too put on the for sale section. I am never going back. I love the taller 5th gear.

And those trips were all done with the windows up, and the AC pumping out ice cold air on hot summer days.

Otter74 03-08-2022 12:19 PM

'80 SC Targa with cams and a Megasquirt for fuel and ignition, gutted cat - I get about 24mpg on trips, typically 70-75 with the top off.

Aircooled4evr 03-08-2022 12:44 PM

1 gallon = 3.78 liters
1 USD = 6.83 DKR
1 liter of Octane 100 costs today (Denmark) = 17.8 DKR
Converted: 1 gallon = 9,85 $ ............ Holy S ...!
Damn! ... I'm glad I chose to tune for better fuel economy for my latest project!

:eek::eek::eek:

TopTuning 03-08-2022 02:28 PM

Around 16-22 with E85, turbo, heavy foot :)

sky1jord 03-08-2022 03:54 PM

Around 15-16 mpg around town, but if i mix in some freeway driving, it goes all the way to 17.
This is pretty much unchanged in my '88 Targa from the day i bought it (1992 with 4K miles on it) to today (127K miles)
It's driven "rapidly", not "maniacally", no leaks. Needs a quart of oil every 1000-1200 miles, plugs always look good after major service, car is stone cold unmodified, so where's the gas been going?

chrisbalich 03-09-2022 10:04 AM

1979SC / 3.0 / 2225lbs - 20.1mpg all-time average - best of 25.9

Hoping with new induction and new EFI this year, I'll bring up both of those numbers.

Walt Fricke 03-09-2022 12:01 PM

I've got a related question. I race an '82 US SC. I've never gotten serious about how much fuel per unit of time on the track it consumes. Below about a quarter of the stock tank it starts cutting out on long corners, so I have to leave a margin, but want to finish just a bit above my minimum weight.

Gallons per hour? Gallons per minute? Anyone calculated this for an SC on the track?

I'm only getting approx 15-16mpg for a fairly mildly modified engine.. 3.1litre, ssi's, monty muffler.. runs beautifully, plugs are clean...
I could lean it out a little more I guess and see if that makes much difference

1QuickS 03-09-2022 05:34 PM

  • 25 MPG @ 80 MPH (averaged for over 367 miles)
  • 23.5 MPG @ 70 MPH (averaged over 200 miles)

Better mileage at 80 than at 70!

1967 911S hot rod, 2.3 liter, twin plug, open exhaust, light weight

32 gallons to go 703 miles equates to 22 mpg. Stayed about 75-80 mph.

Last August so 90F out. Real 2.7RS, meaning MFI with correct space cam etc.

kclem19 03-09-2022 06:28 PM

30 MPG and 70 mph, 25 MPG at 80 mph... 2.4L EFI targeting 14.7:1 and ~50 degrees spark advance at cruise :)

LIRS6 06-20-2022 06:06 PM

I was searching the forum and found this thread - interesting comment in first post. Deja vu all over again…

Anyway, I wanted to post that I am getting a whopping 12 mpg around town, with some aggressive driving. UGH. Seems really poor. Top end re-build 5 yrs ago, Any smoking gun to look for?

Jason
