Front Sway Bar Help
I have a persistent creak coming from the front sway bar, after upgrading my SC to late Carrera sways. The noise occurs on low speed bumps & turns. It is most noticeable on the passenger side, but I get an occasional peep from the driver's side as well.
I used a light coat of lithium grease on the rubber bushings although I guess most of it was displaced while getting the bar into place. Should these bushings be greased at all or is it best to leave them alone? I can't see how the noise can come from anything else... but really don't want to remove & reinstall the bar ![]() |

Yep- the bars came with the later Carrera bushings. They were from a fairly low mileage car and appeared in good shape plus still felt quite pliable so I figured it would be safe to use them. They were in much better shape than the (quiet) SC bushings I removed at least, which was really all I had to compare them with.
I am pretty sure it is the outer bushings that are the culprit here. I'll take a closer look to verify I didn't damage them while energetically installing the sway bar! |

there are A arm bushings as well as sway bar bushings. try a process of elimination. spray a light lube or even water on one sway bushing at a time and push up and down on the corner to try and make it squeak. If it still squeaks with lubed sway bushings it might be the A arm bushings.

Are you sure its the sway bar. My creak was the hood latch.

ubi, i had the same problem. on a hard drive with the bay area guys, it just about drove me insane. push on the fender to verify it is the sways.
go to TARGET, and get the turkey marinader. bigasshypodermic needle used to make schitty cooks better. fill it with grease. i used the energy suspension bushing lube, from autozone. and stab and inject. you will destroy the needle, but mine lasted long enough to save my sanity. target sells one with a steel needle. i used a plastic one and it sucked. (but worked)

Sway bar bushings are prime suspect because I had no creaks before changing the sways, and I've done nothing else since then. A squeekie hood latch has fooled me into thinking the noise was coming from my suspension in the past... but that was more of a squeek than a creak and was due to me not closing the hood properly.
Vash- I'll try out your big needle suggestion... |
