Cleaning top of engine - what do you use and how do you use it?

Thanks guys I'll try these applications.
I never worried about spraying Gunk and hosing down my iron V8s. This alluminum/magnesium/fan engine that cost more than my daily driver might require a lighter touch.

All I've ever done over the years is damp rags then dry rags, and elbow grease. I do remove the air filter housing first, and I do it EVERY time I wash/wax the car...

No, mine is not interactive. It is hard not to keep hitting the stop button every time I see your posts though.
