3.6 vario/ or C2Turbo motor into 95 993?
Whats involved with putting a varioram motor into a 95 993 (non varo) car? Im assuming its just using correct dme and harness.?? anything else?
Or What about installing a C2Turbo engine into a 993? Anyone done that? |

Alright buddy....what gives? You built and sold an awesome RS replica. Now I see an inquiry regarding a motor swap. Did you get your old 993 back? C'mon man....those of us living vicariously through you need details!

Do you have a couple of motors looking for homes?
I noticed you posted the exact same question on the 914 board --- asking which motor was best used in a 914. Putting a CIS 930 engine in a 993 seems a bid ..... odd. I've followed your build-ups these past few years. A varioram 3.6 modded to twin turbo in a 993, now THAT is your style.

I debated the exact same thing when I did my swap, and I obviously chose the NA route. I chose the 3.6 Varioram for more low-end torque/no turbo lag, which seemed more appealing for street duty. Also, my resources told me the turbo engine was about 100lbs heavier, which was also a big detraction. Factor the old skool CIS into the equation, and the decision became easier. The advantage of the turbo is the much great power potential, alas my 915 can only take so much power before becoming unreliable, thus negating that advantage to a certain degree.
Of course, you're putting this into a 993, so you have a different set of variables to work with ![]()

You might want to touch base w/ Steve Timmons.
I know that the harnesses are differenent between vram and non, the DME itself is the same for any of the OBD1 versions(55pin), but a US OBD2(88pin) would need a DME that matches the harness and engine. I also know that Steve has done that type of thing before.

Mike, LOL.!
I am headed in 5 different directions at the moment. I shouldnt do anything, because Delta just filed for bankruptcy. Thats one of the reasons I sold the RSR. But, as always, I seem to run across deals that ponder my interest. One of them is to put a 993 3.6 into a 914 to make an awesome track car, the other is to put a C2T into a 993. Both of which i could do "reasonably" cheap. Stay tuned.... Rarly.. Hmmm. Great idea..! Bob, heres the for sale thread.. F/S, 1972 Green 911 RSR Clone.

hallo
The DME is not the same , you have to swap the DME and The Harness . Also the V-ram has bgger Valves and stronger Rods , but the weight penalty is 12 KG about 30 Pounds . I would go the V-ram route , the Turbo takes about double the Gas and maintenance Cost . harald |

If you plan to turbocharge your 3.6 engine later on, Varioram will be obsolete.
C2T engine is a CIS engine (except rare 3.6 singe turbo). Not something I would install in 993.
