What works to remove the glue left over from the engine sound pad?

I recently removed my engine sound pad. It was mostly laying on my engine and falling apart, so I just ripped it all out. Now I'm left with all of the pretty yellow/brown goo it was attached with. I scraped at it with a brush, but it's on there pretty good. What can I use to safely dissolve it? I would like to avoid removing or lowering the engine if possible, and avoid damaging the paint. Something spray on that I can rinse off with a hose after it does its job would be ideal.

I used goof off with a power washer. It work just ok. I'm thinking something that will dissolve adhesive would work better.

I have no idea if this would work or not, but if I were in that situation I would try using some gasket remover, because I have it on hand, and know it is for automotive use. Works pretty good for getting off the goo left by old, worn out gaskets. Probably would have to scrub a little with the brush again instead of just rinsing away.

Acetone works but it's not fun. I just glued the new pad on top & cleaned the edges.

I think I read on this forum that 3M adhesive remover works great. Is this true?

Thanks for the feedback. Where do you get this stuff? Lowe's, Home Depot? Is it in a spray can or what?

NAPA will have it. An auto-paint-supply store will have it. I've even seen it at Pep-Boys.

I buy it in a squirt can. Squirt it on a rag, rub it on the glue. Use patience...

Why not install an Ap-biz sound pad? Here is a picture of the one I installed. You can order one from Pelican, or Ap-biz. I only had to lower the back of the engine in my Porsche about 2" to install it. I didn't even need to unhook any lines.

Yep, I had to lower my engine about 2-3 inches to get the old one completely out. I didn't notice any difference when I removed it, so I don't see a need for it. I think because it is a euro it has less sound deadening materal anyway. My dad's 88 has always been much quiter. It's also not a daily driver so I doesn't bother me.

I got the 3m stuff in an aerosol can, I have yet to use it but I imagine it would work great. The cans are hard to come by, I got mine at a local automotive paint store.

you aren't hearing a difference b/c the old one was so far gone it had no noise insulation left - a new one will reduce the noise

no reason to remove all the old glue - just spray on new glue and go. I use the tube type around the edges.

Thank you, Randy. I too, saw no reason to remove old glue simply to replace it with new glue & then hide it all permanently under a pad.
