I am restoring a 1980 Targa. I am 6'4" tall. I have short legs and all my height is in my upper boddy. when I sit, my height from the seat to the top of my head is like I am 6'7".

Other than driving with the top off, Is there a seat that will work better than the stock seat? Can I cut the brackets and have them re-welded lower? Is there a retro kit that has the seat bolt to the floor? I need help here guys as I will hate to have to sell the car after restoring it. Thanks

There are plenty of seat choices that are lower to the floor. The stock seats are naturally thick. You might want to look into aftermarket choices: Recaro, Sparco, ect.

I think the targa seat already sits 1/2" lower - could be wrong. There are kits to raise the seat 1/2", maybe they can be rigged to lower - just guess here.

I saw an old British sports car will a full roll bar once,. The driver bolted the seat directly to the floor so he would not knock his helmet on the overhead bar. It was of course non-adjustable. Sorry I was no help - consider this a bump.

I was not aware that the targa seats were a different height. Doesn't seem that way to me.

a Recaro "Speed" for example, is reclining and very comfortable and would buy you some headroom Not cheap, but a great seat. I just last weekend drove a sunroof coupe SC with the seat rails removed and new angle iron welded about 1.5" lower. It was a quality job, and made a huge difference to headroom in the car for a tall guy. As long as someone who does quality work is doing the welding, I don't really see this modification as a big deal. You might go through your friendly local independent porsche mechanic to see if they know a good person to do the job.

Hmm, what about if you recline?? You may want to check out the power seats in a later car to see if in the all of the way down position they are any better. Do a search, there are lots of threads on making seats mount lower.

I'm not sure this link covers 1980 - it should. Sport seat and elevating hardware. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_INTsts_pg4.htm#item9
