I predict that soon there will be as many RSR (and ST) clones running big displacement engines as there are RS clones now. They'll eventually all be valuable in varying degrees to a limited market. I've been doing a bit of hot rod early 911 shopping lately. Haven't seen the one yet that makes me say "Shazam! That's IT!"
There WAS one in this area that I greatly admired...before it sold to an owner who robbed it of $10,000 worth of parts for his other cars. Now I'm not interested, especially in the $40,000 range. What made this car desirable to me was the thought of the original owner. That thought vanished the day the current owner started with the parts swapping...original sports seats swapped for cheap aftermarket, etc. Today? The car is just another 911T with a power boost to me. Before? It was "special"...

My point is...flame away! But hot rodding is hot rodding. I love hot rods. I've loved 'em ever since I saw my first chopped deuce coupe. Every one displays the thoughts & dreams of it's owner. But hot rods are made every day, and there is a HUGE difference between a clone and the real thing. Also, there are REAL hot rods and then there are Carol Doda cars...poseurs, if you will. Back when, we called 'em "no go show boats"...(edit)
when the car I was writing about was in the hands of it's original owner, I felt it was a superbly "balanced" car...about as far as one would want to go toward a normally aspirated track car, while still being able to jump in it and drive from coast to coast, with some level of comfort, combined with performance. It's second owner reduced both the comfort level AND the performance!

Just curious, who's flaming? The thread was "show me your RSRs (and clones, presumably because that's what most have or are making)"

I think the value is in the: 1. performance; 2. workmanship 3. cost to reproduce (even a clone). Is imitation not a great form of flattery?

May I suggest that you show us your favorite Hot Rod RSR style theme, IE the before shots of the 911T that you "admired", before it was butchered?

AND most of ours are faster and handle better than the real RSR's for a fifth of the price of a real one!:D

It's NOT RSR style...it was a perfectly balanced car...note I use the past tense. RSR style on the street? Too much "Carol Doda" for me... RSR "style" on the street isn't my taste. A subtle (as if orange could be subtle) is. A well balanced car with enough beans to shock the hell out of the guy driving "RSR STYLE". Well, it's one of those either you get it or not things...gimme a Q ship for the street over a flared and graphics painted "clone" any day of the week. Graphics painting? Wide flares? They have their place...the track. Jack O. does both...this is NOT meant as a slam to Jack or his car. But yeah, I see a whole lot of "look at me" in this thread. I could buy an RSR body kit for a few thou...place it all atop a mid 70's car. Carol Doda...

Looks are subjective. Performance standards change over time. Uses vary (as may your mileage).

Maybe pwd72 was trying to say that these RSR are getting too common... You might have a point there...

But as Don (Porsche Doc) said some of the cars pictured here would give an original RSR (2.8 or 3.0) a hard time on the track...

And their owners would just pack their bags, fill them up and drive home.

To me that is the essence of these cars. Mine for example doesn't (well didn't) even look like an RSR... but let me tell you.... in the hands of a pro it would walk away from one....

Funny this thread would come up now... A week ago I took my RS bodied car and started to convert it to RSR specs. The flares are bonded on with Duramix panel adhesive and are GT racing exact copies of the original RSR flares. Early turbo flares have distinctly different curvatures.

This is our '74 RSR track car. Started out as a '75 Carrera. The white paint was looking pretty bad so I painted some Aubergine strips on it. It's now in the body shop for a repaint.

mine is to be a 73 RSR rep with (with 15's of course) all the period tricks plus a high hp 3.3 turbo (5-600hp) it wont be origonal but it will fly and it will be mine! started as a good high mile SC......

I have a question regarding the rear turbo flares:

Are there differences other than the size of the torsion bar holes and their placement???
