1st time driving this car on the track at Road Atlanta. 1973 RSR Replica.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133527882.jpg

I have a newbie question, I have RSR wide body clone that I am building, will post some outside pics ASAP, Almost ready to roll. My big concern is the clearance that I have in the rear.
69 T tub Alluminium Bananas RSR vented rears, 17 inch forgeline with 315/35 pirelles 33mm sanders hollow bars, huge sway bar. How low can I run my ride height, without worying about ripping the rear flares of under heavy load. How much compression can i expect? When i look at the geometry of the RSR wides there is no way i can see the tires tuck, its a shelf above there. I'e sure if i wasn't cheap i could run coil overs and some bump stops, Anyway with torsion bars to prevent bottoming. Any help before i take the car out and destroy it would be helpful. |
I am not an expert on early tubs... but the vented rears should give u enough cleareance. Those flares were designed to accomodate 13' wide wheels.
Your 315/35 Pirellis will likely be mounted on a 11' rim. So I'd be careful with the spacers... but you should be ok. Do you have details of the wheel? Offset? That should determine how wide the spacer can be. |
Was running a rim that was designed for rsr,had a 2 and 3/8 spacer because i really wanted to fill out the wheel well, after a holeshot in the driveway i sank the rear and rubbed the edge, just some rubber on the lip but immediately i ordered 2 inch spacers, was wondering wher guys were running the height, seems like the jersey yellow rsr wide is set up with tire 1 inche below lip giving about 3 inches of travel, I wanted to run the tires almost up in the lip already, getting it about 1 inch lower than ones i've seen, But I don't want to destroy it. I will post a picture ASAP and not hijack the thread with any silly questions, I to am very interested in seeing the RSR clones. And the real ones, 934, 935, RSR Fat bottom Girls, Interpretations seems to be a term that i am loving, makes the most sense, as we all have a little different idea of how we want them to look and handle.

There is a wheel spacing chart which Bill Verburg has put together that will be very helpful in getting your spacing correct. If those are 13" flares (and you are using an 11" wheel), I wouldn't push too hard to get the inside of the wheel right up against the tub. My Turbo flares pretty easily accomodate an 11" wheel. well, its not mine anymore, but i built it, so im posting it!!

graphics
This pics a few weeks ago, wing is on and interior is finished, having nightmares about graphics, Yes/No? it will be a street/ DE car. Clone/ Interpretation is the key. I took some liberties with the fiberglass. I am really tossed about whether to run the carrera rs graphics on it. It is 05 speed yellow, go with the vintage sticker look or keep it plain. I was thinking a cool idea might be to run Ghost graphics, the same color as the car, really subtle. Anyone ever done that? Keep the rsr pics coming.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133545267.jpg

Love those HUGE Forgelines....
Any pics showing them at a 3/4 angle to see the depth? |

I believe i will try the following:
Press start, Allow engine to warm up, Engage clutch, release parking brake, engage first gear, release clutch slowly while providing enough rpm to engage clutch. As the HD clutch without power pushes heavily against my right leg i'll let the accelerator pedal push closer to the floor. As she grabs and acceleraates like a bat out of hell i'll watch everyone else become, OBJECTS THAT ARE SMALLER THAN THEY APPEAR. I'll wait for them to catch up at 100 then 4rth to 120 pushed back in my seat anmd slowly shift into 5th, if its a turbo, C6 corvette or anyone else who has more HP than brains we can continue on until stupidity or God stops the race. Or i could say that as a man in my early thirties and no track experience it will be a long time before i can drive the car to its limits. but then again half the fun will be learning. Since its my FIRST tub down buildup I look forward to learning, and to the next car. And certainly watching pro's like the thread starter for more Ideas Camera is broken so update pictures are coming soon, Maybe Ron could post the wheel pic, as i recieved some pics he took but was not able to upload. |
In reply to the tag, Nice car do you know how to drive, by Erik, not meant sarcastically, LOL looked funny without a referance,

This is my recent purchase. I have been enjoying this car as it is...and looking forward to adding the upgrades... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133829625.jpg
It's great to see so many different interpretations of the theme. |

They are a bit too bright for my preference. The "vapor blasted" RSR wheel finish look is very appealing to me. However, the chromed wheels do clean up easily. |
rim shots as requested by Slider
These are 17 inch forgelines, the fronts run no spacer but the rears are running a 2 inch spacer now, beacause i'm running the 13 inch flares, they would fit perfect without spacers on an 11 inch car. I may be running the same brakes your planning on running also, either 993 or 944 turbo, I forget, made my own spacers out of 6061 on the mill. Rear picture is blurry because of low light situation, Pictures are thanks to RonG. My camera was dropped by the wife, guess i know what i'm getting for Xmas. Very happy with the forgelines, I have the center caps and chrome lugs for the street look,
And for those that might want to bust on it, no i don't run three lugs. The car is being assembled so its up and down, on and off so many times, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133966289.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133966345.jpg Trackrat, everyone thinks i have a big garage, but an airplane hangar, holy . Thank for the update, i really like the frostedd look also, but that set jumps, i have a set of fakes that i was going to run as a spare set for my 87, and was going to polish but don't really like the upkeep, have a set now that is chrome steel and the look is not bad on a carrera, guess i'm a child of the 80's bling, bling. The frosted rsr's do look bad as# though. If your interested in charity :O and want me to relieve you of the chrome ones i could.LOL |
