Tubo Oil Pump xlitres per min
Hi,

Welcome to the Forum. The Porsche 911 Performance Handbook by Bruce Anderson has a pretty though set of explanations and pictures on pages 63 & 64. The 2nd Ed. is available from our host. How To Rebuild & Modify Porsche 911 Engines by Wayne Dempsey is another good source. See pages 76-77. Obviously available from our host. If you are going into this level of modifying your 911 engine, you should gather every scrap of technical information, books and manuals - Factory and other. Some through on-line searching is in order. Some component suppliers and engine builders have very complete and informative web sites. After you have compiled all this info, many professional builders will answer a detailed and knowledgeable question. You will even find some forums (not Pelican) non-responsive to not well thought out questions. You should start your own personal car specific manual (both on disc and in paper.) This will help you organize a project like this. Try “Personal Car Specific Manual” link. To partially answer your question: “The 964 pump is also a high-quality large-capacity pump made of magnesium, with bearings for the pump shafts. The pressure pump delivers 65 liters of oil per minute: 17 liters are used for the squirters to cool the pistons, around 35 liters are used to lubricate the main and con-rod bearings, and the oil flow to the camshaft housing was reduced by about 50% to the 13 liters necessary to lubricate the camshaft bearings, valve guides and rocker arms. The scavenge pump has 1.84 times the capacity of the pressure pump to ensure a low oil level in the engine’s crankcase.” © 1996 Bruce Anderson. This probably came from a Porsche technical document. Interestingly it doesn’t give the all important engine speed. I would assume this to be 6000 or 6100 RPM for a street M64 and not a higher RPM race engine. It would be very useful to try and find or estimate all of the oil flows in the various 911 engines. Clearly there are favorable and unfavorable combinations for different engines, components and use. Bruce’s numbers above are the most descriptive I’ve ever seen. Thanks for your reply, I have got a copy of Bruce Anderson's Performance Handbook, so I can check this out in the morning, I also own a copy of Wayne's Book - thankyou for the infomation on the 964 oil pump, that's most useful. What I'm doing is upgrading a 911 RS Rally Car to a RSR Spec Engine, fitted with a turbo oil pump. We have fabricated a new oil pump, to sit up front in the smugglers box - the oil tank incorporates a swirl pot in the top, in-order to eliminate air in the oil. Along with this modification, I mounted a front oil cooler, similar to an RSR - the reason for the question was to do a dummy run on the swirl pot to see how it coped with the flow of oil.
