2002 996 Turbo - Need Help Quick
A friend just called tonight with what sounds like the deal of the decade. I know nothing about 996's, but I may be buying one tomorrow morning. This is a loaded 1-owner 2002 996 Turbo Cab with 26,000 miles. A local widow is trying to unload it at an UNBELIEVABLE price .... before the bank reposses it.
Questions: 1) Are there any inherent/common problems in this model I need to be aware of? 2) What was the warranty length/mileage in 2002? 3) What is the "R&M Chrome package"???????? Thanks for any assistance. |

OK, let's get down to a more basic question: was there a cab version of the Turbo in 2002? I've searched eBay and AutoTrader and can't find one. I'm beginnning to think this is a normal Carrera ....

I just talked to him again and he said the window sticker shows $95,000. So it's defintitely not a Turbo! It's got to be either a C2 or C4 Cab. It's still well below dealer trade-in, but maybe not enough of a deal.. We'll see tomorrow morning ....

dude, if the bank can reposses it, then they have the title, and she can't sell it without them.

not in CA, they hold the title until the loan is paid off, so you can't sell it.

I guess it is, but my point was, it sounds like the current owner is thinking she can sell the car at a below market value to screw the bank before they reposses the car. If someone were to buy it, lets say for a dollar, the bank will not release the title until it is paid, so the buyer is not getting the car for a dollar unless the current owner pays off the loan. Plus a bank will return to the owner any amount over the loan amount and processing fees, so there is no point is selling it below market.
So really you can't sell the car if the bank holds the title, you can arrange for a sale to take place but the deal is not done until the bank is paid. I will endevor to read more carefully next time. Jim

My understanding is she simply has a cash-flow problem and can't make the payments right now. Whatever, there won't be any problems with the title because the transaction - if there is one - will take place with the lien holder present.

So, what's the scoop on this car? My guess is it's a regular coupe (no C4). I would think a great deal on that car would be a bit under 40K, depending on condition of course. But, if it's a 95K sticker, it sounds very well optioned. What's the price she is selling for? No harm in disclosing as we don't know who she is.
Best of luck. If you don't want it, I'm sure one of us might grab it if the price is right.

Regular 3 yr old 996 C2 is not worth 95k, cab or not. 50-60 at most.

No, the sticker price when new was $95K. I did go look at the car and it's a '02 Carrera Cab. White w/gray leather interior. Tiptronic. Pretty much loaded. Hardtop. I couldn't find any flaws. Beautiful car. 1 owner, all records. 26,000 miles. She'd probably sell for $40K but not much less. That's a really good deal. Anything less than that and her Dad said he's going to buy it and stick it in his barn. I offered $36 and he turned it down (I would only buy it to flip it and make some money). If anyone is interested, PM me and I can put you in touch with her Dad. It's really a pretty sad deal - her husband died suddenly, probably in his 40's.

Yeah, I wish I were in the market for this car. I would've bought it. I'm not a big 996 fan, but if it had been a 6-speed coupe, I probably would've talked myself into it by now!
