Procomp ignition? (MSD 6AL copy)

Since I'm encountering difficulty getting my engine running, and intended to go to an MSD setup anyway, I was looking around on Ebay and found a 6AL copy/knockoff made by Procomp. The price is nice ($125 for the box).

Any opinion on these? Worth it, or total crap?

I figure that, a Blaster coil and some good wires... and I'll be set.

Ok, didn't get any feedback on this, so I went ahead and ordered a unit. Also ordered an MSD Blaster coil. For now, I will be running it with almost new Beru wires and Bosch plugs. (I'll regap according to the ignition's specs)

The wires and plugs will be replaced soon, along with the cap and rotor, so that the whole ignition system will be completely replaced and upgraded.

I'll post a review and hopefully get a little video of the car starting up and running a little bit. Should have everything by Friday, so the install will happen on Saturday.

i called Kragen, and a brand new 6AL is $220.

i bet your procomp will work perfectly. it is the same thing. if you didnt get the hi-vibe coil, remember you cant mount it upside down. your middle wire may or may not be long enough.

Vash, I wasn't aware about mounting it upside down! I think what I'm going to end up doing is mounting an aluminum plate, probably 4-5" wide by about 24" long to the back firewall, then mount the box and coil to it. I'll just need to get a longer wire for the coil to distributor connection. I should be able to mount the coil in whatever orientation I want.

I got the unit for $140 shipped. I saw it for $135 shipped at one place, but they didn't have any in stock. Ordered the coil from Jegs, which is giving 'free' 1-2 day shipping... but they charge a $9 'handling' fee. Came out to $42 something.

I'll post when I get it all up and running.
