I think I wish I knew how to weld so I could build one myself! Nice going, looks awesome! Can't wait to see rest of the progress.

Here is the front . still have to cut and weld but this is very straight forward and a real easy install.

Ben:

I see it's too late but I will make an observation anyway...might help those doing this to their cars later...

Notice that a number of panels have to "line up" rather critically to one another..there are many combo's that will end up looking good, and some that do not.

I found it interesting that when the boys at Gunnar Racing ( Kevin Jennete's group) do their startling rebuilds..they insert a fat wooden dowel (broomstick?) through the torsion bar opening of the rear fender and insert it into the TB receiver "hole" in the chassis...just to make sure they got the wide-body rear panels aligned correctly. Won't make anyone happy if the panels fit to the bumper , etc correctly...but the clearance for the TB's is wrong so you can't install / remove the TB's...

I found some rims for you Ben. They would look really sweet under those flares
You know your car is still going to be slower then my 3.2 914.

Thanks for the insight I did check that as well. I was concerned as the po did not have them aligned with the glass flares.

Brian you wish. We will have to drag in the summer

I must admit that I often skipped college classes to watch Miami Vice reruns! If I did not hate body work so much, I think I might do the same. I just spent 1 1/2 months repainting my 951 and now am doing a quickie (3 weeks or less I hope) on a second 924 I just picked for for daughter #2. I @%#@!@!!!!!! hate sanding!!!!!!!!!!!!
If my 911 ever gets doinked, I think I will turbo flare, but until then, it stays as is!

Did I mention, I hate sanding bondo, I hate sanding primer, I hate sanding fiberglass, I hate sanding epoxy, I hate color sanding and I hate buffing!!!!!!!!

Are you doing the cleco together then cutoff wheel a few inches, tack, cutoff wheel a few inches, tack etc etc method?

Cleco to fit. Put a tape line at the edge of the new flare Then remove clecos, cut with cut off wheel in my grinder and then fitting back up and tacking Just a bit at a time. It took about 1 hour to get what you see this far. So not really that bad. I will have just a bit of mudd in it as it will hammer pretty straight. So hopefully not much sanding

Are you going to tig it or mig zap it? I have tigged a few repairs and find that I end up with considerable warping even with jumping around and short stitching. I wonder if mig stitching would cause less heat warping issues (even though the weld would require more cleanup grinding).

Tig , I will just tack a little at a time and it should control it. I will skip to each fender to help control it.

As for teaching this. I do teach this in my advance welding classes so kind of second hat for me. We have skinned 55 chevys and done a couple of mopars as that is where most of them were made and rusted (kenosha wisconsin that is)

To answer what muffler Probably a Montey
