What was your cheapest but labor intensive fix?
My recent 930 tranny disaster.....had to pull the drive train due to 1st,2nd and reverse gear running away and hiding.....
I disassembled the trans case expecting shift forks to be loose or a foreign object crammed in someplace.....NOTHING..... Picked up the rear cover plate and found that a $.75 circlip had popped of the reverse idler gear...... 100 bucks worth of Swepco and a gasket kit and it was fixed....

Jared,
If you are referring to the '70-'71 type "911" gearbox, I agree entirely. Since you have to pull the engine/tranny assembly and then separate them to get at the ball pivot, the "while we're in there" stuff can also be expensive and time consuming.

86 Carrera. Starter ring gear "Free" because its still hanging on the garage wall after the engine is back in the car. Labor? well lets not talk about that!

How about a nickel sized hole poked in a case?
Fix was a 30 second weld. Cost was a complete split case teardown and rebuild. I redefined Turettes.

Re-indexing the rear torsion bars.
When I got the 'old E', the muffler was almost dragging in places. Can't have that, there are bumps on the road in Nova Scotia. So, with the information and advice on this board, I went at it. After a day and 1/2, I had both sides the same height (and no longer scraping on driveways), but it was higher than I wanted. (Darn thing looked like a ralley car!) I drove it for a few weeks that way then went back at it again. The second time was much easier, I was able to do the job in an afternoon. Total spent on parts, $0.00 Bandaids, 5 Satisfaction, priceless. Les

Main seal, leaked beacuse my 2.7 case was slightly oval. Had to remove engine, (twice), machine the outer diameter for the seal, make a 0.010" sleeve, and press in a new seal.
About $5.00 material, and 40 hours of bu11$h!+.
