Mine was never driven in rain, maybe they are prepped differently than in 2004.

I thought you didnt like the resonance in the 2-3k range?

I'll bet a nickle there's another exhaust system on this car within a year.

I didn't. But for a virtual race car, it wasn't a bad thing.

I've been running the Flowmaster for years. Street and track. You can always cap one side for quiet drives.

John,
The car is still in NC but so am I. Short visit with the boys at Zuffenhaus.

A few more from underneath.

Regards,
Bob

I have only one tiny reservation about this truly stunning project and it is very UK specific - yet relevant for intended use in the UK.

It centres on the exhaust and the noise limits which we are cursed with in the UK for track days. Even "noisy days" have a 105db static noise test tested 1 metre from the tail pipe at a 45 degree angle and at 3/4 max revs. Most folks fudge it and test at no more than 4500rpm but some tracks look at your rev counter and do the math based on where the redline is. By way of example, my Supercup cammed 3.2 with 993HEs and M&K muffler tests 103db if I fudge it at just over 4000rpm and probably 105db at 4500rpm when its capped and in 2-in 1-out mode. I have tested it at 110db in proper 2-out mode - its a rallye style with 1 side and 2 straight back pipes. I can't see how this car will be under 105db as ITBs are noisier than common plenum intakes and stainless headers seem to be noiser as well for some weird reason.

Do not despair. We have solutions in the UK and some know-how in how to fudge the tests and indeed some tracks that have no testing at all - but currently, your track day fun will be limited.

Can't wait to see the car.

Richard

Not sure yet where we will end up next year, but Snett, Dijon, Spa, Le Mans and Magny Cours are on my list of wants, so as long as it comes in at *around* the 105 mark, this car would probably get on regular days at all of those.

After that it is just looking for the no-limits days like Silverstone GP and so on. If Teo elects to run with RMA or similar, they might have a degree of 'enhanced flexibility' in some places. Dunno how it will fare at Goodwood, Brands and Combe, though I have no burning desire to go to any of those - Euro road/track trips are where its at...

I know a few early cars with 2.8 motors on ITBs w/Motec and similar crossover exhausts on SSIs, they get on OK so we'll see how this one does.

Bob - thanks for the great pics, like the welding on the rear of those Lindseys.

Well Mr G, we both have much the same info to draw conclusions from, but I think 105db will be tough unless extra bolt on silencers are used. IMHO, we were lucky with the last Snet testing - especially Rainer. I have not seen that kind of leniency before.

I hope Matteo can join your/our posse and play wherever he wants. I am sure any problem can be solved, but as they say, be prepared

Yes I agree RB, will prob have to cap something but should get on without a muffler change is what I meant to say. Remenber that Ferrari Challenge Car at Snett, dunno how that got on but still it swung it somehow.

Considering the slick fit elsewhere on the car I'm a bit surprised that the exhaust tips aren't set up into the valance little bit - any reason for this Keith or did you guys prefer the smooth valance/low pipes look? Or is it the stock fit on the Flowmaster?

We were actually assuming that we'd need to fit the valance and develop the exhaust solution - but what you see is how the motor arrived - it physicall fits (very well) as is...

Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Screw caps or Supertrapp fittings on that and you are really in business.

I much prefer the through valence exhaust, though it is still a stellar piece of workmanship.
Great work, guys!

Look forward to seeing the dyno data.

Good luck with your move Teo!

That was backfiring because of a hole I'd torn in the muffler. The Flowmaster by itself makes sound at Laguna Seca.

Do you know how many DB it makes?
