...Those suspension pieces are dazzling.

WOW !

Just think though - if all the tuning with the laptop could s
be shared here what a great lesson for those of us without these skills.

Step by step stuff mastering Motec - with all the little things involved.

Yowee !! Keep this thread goin' full bore !

what do you think, Matteo?

Hey Keith, where did you find those pictures of the red Foyt IROC car? I took those at RRII. You'll be hearing from my lawyer soon - copyright infringement and all...;). I hope that you guys are still up to no good and giving Bob a hard time. See you at RRIII?

I am officially in the UK....

I like the original IROC look better.

Having said that you know where my priorities lie... Inspection has to take precedence on anything else. Then let's move the tips up....

As per the noise restrictions in the UK... We'll see... I am sure we'll find a solution, be it a different muffler, fudging with testing or else...

PS
Keith did you find out about setting the limiter on the Motec at 8,000rpm?

Magnificent Keith, loving the oil system and the relocated tank.

jmz 07-20-2007 07:34 AM

looks like a show car, I can't wait to pictures of it used and dirty!

Paul Thomas 07-20-2007 01:28 PM

Very cool stuff Keith, i have a question though.

With the thermostat mounted on it's side like that in the center tunnel, won't the path of least resistance always be to the oil cooler instead of back to the tank?

I have the same unit and i have always understood that when mounted vertically, oil can flow towards the tank when cold, but really doesn't have the pressure to push it until the oil heats the internal spring and shuts off the flow through the middle and back to the tank.

I really didn't understand how it functioned until it failed last summer and oil temps were up drastically. The line to the tank was hot but the return line wasn't because it didn't have the pressure to get to the front mount cooler.

Thanks,
Paul

what kind of oil cooler did you put in? Any drawings or specs on the mounting brackets?

Thanks!

DW SD 07-20-2007 04:49 PM

Looks like a 72 row mocal cooler with custom mounts.

I question my own car's ability to cool ('95 3.6 w/ Super Sport Cams) with the 72 row Mocal cooler. I guess the cooling requirements may be different now in the UK?

Not to sidetrack, but I'm planning to an in fender Carrera cooler in series, because I've seen temps creep up above 210 under non track conditions.

Keith, is this a possible issue? Like Teo's car, I have good airflow through the cooler from an enlargened nose valence.

Asjac 07-20-2007 06:28 PM

How long is the oil cooler? Just for reference sake.

*IF* it is a Setrab 172, which it appears to be form the pic, then the core is 22.50 inches in length. It would be 2.0 inches thick and 6.25 inches tall. I use that cooler and it is a good fit behind a bumper with a cooler cut out....

Cheers

Keith - if it's not a headache - perhaps you'll consider showing us some of the tuning and 'whatnot' taking place with that motor. (?)

This is the most interesting stage of the whole project.......
Once it's on the road, the fundamentals of the motor, mapping, timing etc. diminish to some degree. But hey, you got your hands full with it.....and most likely have things to work on besides entertaining pelicanites.

Excellent updates thus far...

Basically...., we're all curious about the powerplant.

Jeff,
Do you have cooling issues? Or do you run a second cooler, also?

Doug

Lol, that's the "stuffed up there so we can figure the line length" shot. - I guess I should choose photographs more carfeully...

The Tstat is actually mounted on the wall to the right in real life.

I'll post more pictures as we get it together.

BTW, did I mention that we are driving it around the shop at this point?

DW SD - we've left room for supplemental Carrera-styled coolers in the fenderwells if they prove to be necessary, but we're thinking they might not be - we'll see how well the side exit (with supplemental fan) setup works soon enough!

DW SD 07-26-2007 11:29 AM

How's it run?

Doug
