Price for Aussie 3.0 engine
I've got a 'spare' 3.0 L engine out of a RoW 82 with 35K miles on it. I bought the car and am installing my own engine in. I offered it up for sale at the local Porsche club today and got lots of interest. Trouble is, I'm not too sure what to charge. Costs of parts extraordinarily high and skilled Porsche labor is thin here. I had 3 guys with 2.7s needing rebuilds interested.
WHen I bought it it had been sitting for 6 months, but started right up. I don't have the history of the engine and so I'm a bit wary of selling someone a bad engine too so have encouraged everyone to do their testing. The car is LHD, so I didn't drive it around the street before dropping the engine. It sounded fine and idled evenly. It did smoke a bit under load. Problem is it could either need an Italian tune up, or head work! In any case, I feel obligated to tell everyone to check it as I am sure to be seeing them again around the club and track. My only datapoint for pricing is for the engine I bought in the US that needed rebuilding...$3500 there. Anyone venture a fair ballbark price for this engine in Australia?
