Broken! Bosch Twin Plug Cap and Rotor
Bought a converted Distributor on ebay that uses the RSR Bosch Cap and rotor, unfortunately both were damaged in shipping so I need replacements. What are my options? Can I use the Burn Bros rotor and the Jag Cap on a Bosch Distributor? How about the Marelli Cap? This distributor uses an adapter so I could have some machine work done if needed.

I paid about $600 for the cap and $500 for the rotor.

I do have the pieces from the cap, can I glue it back together? What glue would work.

For $1,000.00 I'd sure try to glue it – especially since you have the broken pieces! My guess is that the cap is made of Bakelite which is a thermoset polymer which has very high strength to weight and extremely high heat resistance. These types of plastics can be glued without worry about softening the material because of the solvents in the glue. That's the good news. The bad news is that because of this property, it's more difficult for the glue to provide strong adhesion. Roughening and thoroughly cleaning both the surfaces before gluing helps, as does making certain that the two surfaces mate to very close tolerances. I think that any of the cyanoacrylate glues (super glue) especially, the jell type, will do a good job. Epoxy glue would probably work even better because of its added strength but it’s trickier to work with and certainly would require proper clamping. Either way, the repaired joint will always be weaker than the surrounding Bakelite. Since this crack is on the spark plug boot tower and not the distributor body itself my guess is that the repair if done carefully and correctly will hold. Let us know how it works out.
