89 Carrera H5 to H4 headlamp upgrade possible?
OK...can't seem to figure this one out...is it possible to upgrade the US headlamp (H5) in an 89 Carrera to Euro H4's? Pelican's parts catalog seems to indicate that their H4 upgrade assemblies are good only up to 86.
What's the deal? Thanks, Mike

Mike,
You certainly can upgrade a G50 Carrera to H4's from the H5's. The earlier models were plug and play while our cars there is some additional work involved as the connectors are different. Pelican should have a headlamp plug adaptor somewhere in their catalog that allows you to more easily change from the H5's to H4's. The H4's are expensive, but they do work well, even with stock wattage bulbs. Ralph |

Mike,
What is confusing you is that there are two ways to put H4 lights in a 911. The Euro H4 light is a complete assembly that looks similar in external appearance to the H5. The other is a replacement for the US sealed beam light that installs in the light "bucket" that was standard on US cars up until 1986. This is quite a bit cheaper than the true Euro H4 but to install it on a 1987 or later car, you'd have to also get the rest of the light assembly that came on the earlier cars. Hope this clears it up, JR |
