Porsche Crest remote keyless entry retrofit

I've tried all variations of the subject in a search, yielding nothing. I'm sure someone has done this. My car is a 1989 Carrera with central locking and I think I'd like to upgrade to a keyless system. What's involved, part numbers, costs, etc? Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Bump..... For a cool project.......

I'd like to know this too.

There is a local stereo shop here that says they can do it. But the people are unprofessional, unorganized and unmotivated. I don't really trust them with the car. I can just see them doing a hack job and really screw up something. When the first thing he says is I've never worked on a P-car before. That was about the time my hand hit the door on the way out!

Sorry I can't be of TOO much help, but the PO of my 83 put a viper alarm in that has remote keyless entry. If you want I can get the model # when I get home tonight.

Give Rod Birch (caraudioinnovations) a call. He knows his p-cars and has always been willing to give advice even if you aren't purchasing from him. At the very least he'll be able to tell you all about the current offerings in the aftermarket.

IF not ready now, this is bound to be avaialable in the aftermarket soon. You might find that aftermakt parts trad journal and scan it if another shop can't find it...

A 2nd issue is whether you'll have to pull out all the existing central locking stuff or can interface with it...

- That's nothing - you should try to get tech support from the morons at Lenovo...

I've got one in my car. It was from Automotion way back from before Pelican. Easy to install yourself. It also has the potential to disable the car's ignition. I was going to tie it into the sensor plate circuit. Never got around to it.

Already available. If you have the central locking, it's just an electrical impulse provided by either the solenoid in the door or the way-too-bright button on the center console. So it's just a matter of providing another jolt to that line (this is my unexpert opinion - we should get Bell's opinion, he does stereo and electric installs all the time).

Long story short, I have seen advertisements in 911 and porsche, or excellence for a kit - roughly $115 or so.

I'll start looking as well, because this has been on my to-do list for a while.

Edit: googled some stuff

1. http://www.slickcar.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=3270

THis seems to be the whole kit - actuators included. Looking for something more streamlined.
