911/930 engine serial number

Hello,

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me where the serial number is located on 911/930 engines and how to read the number IE: year, displacement, etc.

Thank you!!

EJ

EJ,

Look the the right of the fan, on the engine case. There are two numbers. The type number will tell you which engine you have (eg. 930/03) and the serial number will identify the year made. You have to have both and a decent book to look up the information. Report back and we'll let you know what you have.

JR,

Thank you for the reply and the offer to help.

I have looked and I can't find the numbers. The engine is in the car and complete. Can the numbers be seen when the engine is in the car?

Please advise and thanks again.

EJ

EJ the numbers are easily visible with the engine in the car. Look to the right of the fan, towards the bottom where it sits in the engine case. There is a vertical surface with one number and a horizontal surface with the other. Both surfaces are part of the engine case. Use a flashlight.

JR,

Wow....I must be a real lamo. I can't find them. I have taken a picture of the area I think I'm supposed to be looking in. Do you have an email address I can send this picture to you at?

Thanks for all your help!

If you have an AC compressor it might be difficult without knowing where to look.

Look above the oil pressure sender at the base of the fan support for the serial number. Using a flashlight in a darkened garage can help focus your examination to that small area. The numbers are stamped not raised.
