Do you look suspicious? Maybe they are uneasy about your general appearance and demeanor? Just kidding of course...
There has been a lot of good advice here and it all can add up to helping you find a nice car. Surely there can be some agreement between you and the dealer that will allow you to take the car for an inspection. Just be careful!

According to Google definitions, one of the definitions of "Resilience" is: "Ability of a sheep to maintain production in the face of infection with parasites."

Do I get a ride in the car if I'm correct? ;)

I couldn't resist all the fun. Good luck with the car!

Make sure the car got a "valve job", not just a "valve adjustment". "Valve job" = replaced parts, regrind valves/seats, probably new springs and retainers. You are kidding about the tranny, right? If you have ever seen the timing chains on a 911 motor, you'll understand why they do not really "stretch" too much, and if they do, especially on a Carrera, the chain "tensioner" will take up slack. This is not lke a Civic whereby the timing belt/chain, water pump, etc, are changed. BTW, you do know that the Carrera you are looking at does not have a water pump......right? Sorry, could not resist.

Where is this? If it is on Long Island, and their are Lotus and Lambos on the lot, and the name is "BimmerzBenz" stop now!

I was told by the owner when I asked for a ppi "Only God may inspect this car". Yes, I ran.

Tell us where it is on the E. Coast and I'll bet someone in the area will go out and take a look at the car.

Regards,

This actually isn't too far off the mark. Except it isn’t suspicion really but more like age-ism. I am often discriminated against for what I have termed age-istc behavior. I am 32 but I look about 20 most say. It is hell too let me tell you, all kidding aside, I am serious. I have actually had dealerships apologize to me after giving me a hard time about driving their car only to later photocopy my ID and realize my age. Any distiguished members here who would like to serve as my liason in these dealings?

Take a look at it or take it home with them? My boss at work is already trying to locate it himself. And oh yhea, no **** a 911 doesn’t have a water pump? Damn, so how do they keep that big block V-8 that it has in it cool. I think you are pulling my leg though b/c I did notice a little water dripping out of the pipe at the back of the car so I just assumed it had a slight radiator leak so I did price out some radiator leak stop and it is only like $2.50. Wait a minute; you don't think I should point out that coolant leak during the PPI do ya?

It actually makes as much sense as this thread :)

Icemaster 01-31-2006 03:52 PM

David,

How did you find that.....

No, wait, dont' answer that. I'm not sure I want to know.

Ahem.

KWM,

Welcome, sorry I'm late to the game but everyting I'd have said has already been said. Nothing to see here. Move on....

Let us know what happens.

bigchillcar 01-31-2006 08:05 PM

Never has a thread been so long with so little content. It's something to be proud of.

That batman link made me laugh out loud.

Oh, and state laws may protect private buyer-dealer transactions but not necessarily transactions between 2 private parties. Read the lemon law description on your state's DMV website.

And btw, dude, based on the knowledge that the car is on the E. Coast and using sophisticated methods of triangulation beyond the scope of this thread I tracked it down and bought it last night! Now I'm selling it through craigslist to some Nigerians who are sending me a wire transfer...

Thomas Owen 02-01-2006 02:55 AM

At least go back to the Dealer and take a plethora of pictures of the car (maybe a few of the Dealer as well), post them here, and we will give it a Virtual PPI from the comfort of our homes and offices.

Yes, put up a blue tarp behind it and you can Photoshop in the Eiffel Tower!
