MSD Dumbness

the car: 1970T
Engine: 2.2L
Dizzy: Marelli
Coil: MSD Blaster
Old CDI: Bosch

Questions:

1) The old 3 pin connector into the bottom of the bosch box, is the red in the middle of the connector switched power or constant power?

2) if that red wire is switched power, where should i pick up constant power with the "heavy red" wire?

3) do i use the white wire to pick up the spade near the cap on the dizzy??

i have searched thru most of the archives, but i can't find answers to these specific questions.

Thanks,

Joe

you need to run a wire to the batery or try one of the fuses in the engine bay

1- CDI red wire is switch power.
2-There is a power lug at rear of electronics shelf where constant 12 v power is availablke. I'd put the MSD connection here. Much easier than running to starter.
3-white wire goes to dizzy lug which goes to points.

You will probably need the tach adapter to get yopur tach working. Good luck.

MSD sells a tach adaptor. The power wire should come from the battery not a fuse panel and the MSD unit needs to be grounded.

Remember, the MSD has two positives: One as a 'on/off switch' and one as the power it actually uses. The latter is best to connect to the positive lead on the starter motor. The other one needs to be connected to something that goes hot when the ignition is turned on.

with the old original wiring harness, there was a braided ground that went to the base of the dizzy, and with the MSD, there is just one big ground wire that i bolted to the chasis, do i need to be worrying about re-grounding the dizzy???

car starts and runs, but still rough due to dizzy being off and carbs needing tuned, but still no tach worky, black and purple wire straight into msd box on the tach spade. tach was rebuilt with new guts which include internal tach adapter, my only guess is a short in the line to the tach, but i had continuity...so i'm confused...
