WEVO Trans mount install

Just recieved my 901 WEVO trans mount (originals are NLA) this evening and spent the last 1/2 hour installing it. Man this is art and I cant wait to drive the Stay Puff. The trans mount with the WEVO bushings will now match my WEVO engine mounts. Here are some pics of the new mount and old
New WEVO

Old and new together

34 year lod bushing/trans mount with well over 200,000 miles

Ill report back with how things feel after some driving tomorrow.

Thanks to Hayden @ WEVO for great product.

Tomorrow? BUT I CAN'T WAIT TILL TOMORROW!

I need you to get out there and drive that thing right now then report back. How can you not drive it?

There should be a law against bringing up sparkely new parts like this and then asking us to wait, I'm reporting this to a monitor or a moderator or... who's in charge here anyway.

how much noise and vibration diference did you notice. I have a solid mounts but have not installed them yet. I just installed coil over all around. Adn I'm waiting for the snow to melt so I can drive the car before before making any more changes. So I can tell the difference.

One of my least favorite things about the 901(911) is powering hard out of a turn in 2nd gear, go to pull straight back for 3rd and find that 3rd has moved 1/2" to one side.

Is that a symptom of worn out trans mounts? I've got the linkage dead-on perfect otherwise.

I called Wevo the other day about this unit and it's a modification they do in house to your existing beam to accept their new mounts. The whole procedure including the cost of the new mounts retails for $248.80. I think they have cores so that they can just do them on an exchange basis. I don't know yet if we will be offering this service through Pelican...

First impression,
My 10 minute commute to the office turned to more like and hour and we were able to find the rev limiter several times coming out of 2nd and 3rd. The combination of the engine and trans mounts have definatly taken the "play" out of my 911 trans. Other things that have been done were the shifter bushings.
I had been driving the car for the last 2 weeks or so with out this upgrade but with the WEVO engine mounts in place and noticed some shifting issues. I think the new engine mounts were putting extra stress on the 34 year old trans mount bushings and leading to difficult up shifting in the hi rev 2-3-4 gears. This has fixed that issue. I will be replacing the shift coupler soon with the WEVO unit to finish off the hat trick.

Captainrb, this is just my opinion on the noise issue. I could tell no difference between these mounts and the stock ones. Vibrations were no different. Better throttle response was evident for sure.
Now mind you, this is a 71T targa with a interior stripped of all sound proofing and laid with RS carpet. Radio delete option (I did that ) no power anything and riding on all new (within the last year) suspension bushings front and rear including rear monoballs for the trailing arms. 20mm front TB and 26mm rear TB with front and rear sway bars. Lowered to euro height with the optima battery relocation done to the smugglers box.

Rally Jon - 2nd to 3rd at 6800-7000rpm was quick and precise. 3rd was right where it was supposed to be. The 3rd to 4th shift was also right on. Never found 5th as this was not the time nor place for that. I cant wait for my next track day (hoping for the 22nd of this month)

Jandrews - Glen from PP is right on with the pricing. Hayden took my order on a Saturday evening over the phone and I had it yesterday. My mount is going back to him today. Hayden is the best in regards to customer service and an incredible product at a competitive price point.

I have several "jobsite visits" today and will report back tonight with more info and pics of Stay Puff. Its going to be hard not to just blow the whole day off and hit the local twisties!

Read what Richard Parr has to say about the vibrations from the solid mounts. He's Mr. PMO, BTW.

Randy, I understand your concern with "solid mounts" which the WEVO's are not.
Cut from the WEVO website (last paragraph bolded by me)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The release of the WEVO SS Engine Mount - the first non-solid Aftermarket engine mount developed specifically for the 911 engine mount applications.

This WEVO SS Engine Mount is suited to the following applications

911 1965 – 1971 Engine rear cross beam - 2 units
911 1972 – 1989 Engine rear cross beam – 2 units and transmission mount – 2 units
930 1976 – 1989 Engine rear cross beam – 2 units

NOTE; A 914 transmission mount version will be available in April 2005. The 914 hole spacing is close – but not the same as the 911 and the WEVO SS Engine Mount body should not be slotted.

The WEVO SS Engine Mount is designed to offer virtually the same locating advantages of a solid engine mount – without the metal to metal contact between the chassis and the engine.

The SS Engine Mount comprises of 5 components. The design of the components ensures that at rest, or idle, the engine is firmly located, but free to vibrate against the elastomeric pillows isolating the engine mount inner and outer components. When the engine reacts to torque, the components deflect slightly and the spring rate of the isolators is progressively increased, improving the location of the engine and transmission under more stressful conditions. The design is such that metal to metal contact is always avoided, so potentially harmful misalignment forces and vibrations are managed in a manner more similar to the original factory rubber mounts.

The SS Engine Mounts are installed using the original hardware and have a gold anodized finish similar in appearance to the gold zinc plated factory parts.

The SS Engine Mount is an upgrade suited to cars used for spirited road driving all the way through full race cars.

Testing on road and track cars has shown a significant reduction in vibration transmitted versus solid mounts, without reduction in chassis performance, or gear selection accuracy.

Owners of cars with Weber or PMO carburetors will be pleased to know that development of this product was encouraged by Richard Parr at PMO as a way of protecting against carburetor issues related directly to engine vibrations.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time for another jobsite visit!

which the WEVO's are not... solid metal

- Right. I was posting in reply to a poster who wondered about the solid ones. No reason to use those anymore... and reasons not to.

Okay, So here are my final thoughts about this system after a day of driving, errrr I mean work. Put on about 150 miles of some city drivng mixed with hi-rev workouts in some twisties. Also found myself on 5 mile private driveway/road at a new jobsite today that was really fun.
So my opinion is this is one of the best upgrades I have done to my 911. Now granted I am replacing original parts from 71, but I have had this 71T since 85 and it has never shifted better. I can say that this product has made my 911 shifting what it should have always been, easy at any RPM and speed. I am sure the shift coupler will only add to the equation.
Here are a few pics from today as I drove to and from various jobsites and the office.

A beautiful Santa Barbara day!

BACK TO THE OFFICE

Okay this next picutre just shows you how the WEVO upgrade has improved the shifting in Stay Puff. Please, I am not a professional and I dont recommend everyone do this. This may be scary for some.
THE ULTIMATE TEST!!!

Actually my wife is a great driver and is probably better in that seat then I am. Her and my daughter did have a great little drive though.
