Has anyone "rebuilt" H1 headlight adjuster mechanism?
I can't search for "H1" on Pelican. I want to replace one of the adjuster screws that attaches to the flexible shaft that adjust high beams up-down. How do you seperate the two? Are these press-fit, and maybe a little heat will get them apart?

I've worked on a couple of pairs of those. The shafts are crimped around the screw. You might be able to heat the crimp to expand it enough to then back the screw out. The difficulty is getting enough torque on that long screw to do it. If the screw is toast already it doesnt matter. Snap a set of vise grips down really low on the screw and get a small metric wrench or a set of pliers with electrical tape wrapped around the jaws for some protection around the crimped shaft. I've seen hack jobs where an attempt was made to "uncrimp" the crimp to spread it apart. Really messes the works up.

I refurbed a set of H1's as well and these will come apart with heat. Q--why do you need to replace this long screw?

The usual reason for needing a new adjusting screw on H1s is because somebody stripped/rounded out the head because they were too lazy & stupid to keep it properly lubricated!!!

Well, the upper LH adjuster, the one for highbeam up-down, was binding a bit it seems. I had the car in for a recent repair on the RH fender, and they pulled the lamp for the respray. The body guy doing the disassembly apparently tried to unscrew the bezel via the 4 adjuster screws and stripped the one screw out a bit. It was a little galled up prior, so I don't blame him, and the last place you look is the very bottom for the retainer screw.
Actually, I adjusted by pulling the light , a little PB Blaster and using a wrench on the shaft after the flex, bypassing the need to use the screw. It worked fine, it just takes a little trial-error. I'll leave it for now, but at some point I'll need to work something out.

S Man-I'll take the blame for being lazy and/or stupid! It's been a bit of time since I'd adjusted anything. As I stated earlier, it was a little goofed up to begin with, and didn't grab the tip of the driver as well as it should. With the right bit, there's still a little meat left...
I can assure you, all 4 of the screws on this side are now well lubed!! ![]()
