Jeff, thanks for the note. I've mounted the bar (at least done all the prep work) and noticed the state of the floor board area. I plan on doing some reinforcing in the pan. I'm hoping with that and a tight fit it will avoid cracking.

I've not had time the last couple of nights to work on the 911 but I have updated the blog with some shots of my old 914. This was a restoration project I picked up in-progress. The end result was a very nice and fun car.

You can see it at,

Made some more progress on the project 911 this weekend with a good start on fitting the flares. Getting everything to line up is a challenge and some compromises had to be made but overall I'm feeling good about the direction. I'm attaching a few pics, more can be seen on my blog, http://porschebuild.blogspot.com/

Nice work going on there.

I love pulling old bits off, its the putting back on thats the hard bit.
always remember the bits you think 'ah, i'll bin that and get a new one' - 8 months later you are desperate for that little clip and Porsche are out of stock, its a bugger. keep everything.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the words of encouragement.

On putting the bits back, that is certainly a point of concern. I have taken litterally hundreds of pictures and "tagged and bagged" nearly every part. I think of it as 'CSI Porsche' and am hoping this will make re-assembly easier. I am planning a lot of changes in the process such as updating the fuse blocks, etc. This will add some complexity but keep it interesting.

Today marked a major step in the project with the extraction of the engine from the Porsche. With tall jack stands the job was pretty easy to accomplish without assistance. I followed the outline provided in the excellent instructions from Pelican Parts, removing the wires, accelerator linkage, etc. and had the power plant out in an hour or two. The biggest challenge was trying to get it from the jack on to the piano dolly. This step is highly recommended as it does making moving the motor around a heck of a lot easier. A couple of gallon paint cans and some careful balancing got the job done - almost crushed a can in the process but overall the it was success without incident.
I have posted pictures on my blog at porschebuild.blogspot.com/

A nice effort getting the engine out but leaving the box in would really make me sweat.

With the angle you have the car, and the room to manoever the engine I would really worry about engaging the input shaft properly when putting it in and out without damaging it and getting the shift fork back in will be a bugger

For the effort/risk it has to be better to take the box out aswell and it balances better..

red964, I will have plenty of opportunity to remove the box and reposition as necessary. Before the engine sees the inside of the car again I'll be towing the tub to the paint shop for a complete job, inside and out. Thanks for the pointers though, it will be important to get the unit back in with as little drama as possible.

I've obviously spent far too much time reading the posts on this forum as the scope of the project keeps growing. This week I pulled the transaxle and the wiring harnes. What the heck, might as well do it while I'm at it.
As always there are more pics and notes on my blog at http://porschebuild.blogspot.com/
