Another BIGREDS / 993 caliper ????

I was looking through the archives yesterday (which took forever by the way)
and did not really answer my questions .

I stumbled apon a local guy who has huge selection of Calipers and usable rotors
and other parts for 993, 965, 911 and everything is for sale.

heres what calipers are available
1- 993 BIG REDS F-$450pair R- $450pair (there huge)
2- 968 black F-$300 pair R-$300 pair
3-993 black F-$300 pair R - $300 pair
4- 965 black (maybe) F-$300 pair R-$300pair

I am having trouble identifying them, they all look the same exept for the Big red's .

Heres the set up I am thinking of for my 72 RSR project
FRONT- front 993 turbo (big red's)
rear- front 968 black
(if I go with BR's I will go with a bigger master cylinder)

Or

does the 993 F+R easier and make more sense

or

FRONT- 993 front (black)
REAR- 965 rear (black)

DO the 930 rotors aply to all the set ups????

Info please , Thanks

Yes, that is more brake than almost anyone cound possibly need, fits in smaller wheel and has a wider range of available rotors

The Big Red needs the bigger 322mm 993tt/RS rotors and matching rears.

Don't try to put a front caliper in the back, big headaches await.

The 993 front calipers use the same readily available caliper adapters as the Big Reds, you want '78 - 80 930 rotors and hats or any of the 304x32mm 2 piece aftermarket rotors(or Dins 309x32)

In the back you modify the 993 rear caliper(do a search) and a 930 rear rotor.

complete w/ a 23mm m/c and pads.

I'm sure someone will post some pics of their setups done like this in a short while.

Thanks Bill
So the favored way to go is the 993 F+R .

I guess I am just tempted to go with the BR's just because there easily available.
I am going to do another search tomorrow for some pics on the 993 set up.

whats your opinion on this set up
FRONT- 993 front Big red's/993tt front rotor
Rear- rear 993(black)/930 rear rotor
would the bias be to much to the front? would a adjustable bias help?

The Racetechnology Big Red kit AFAIk is NLA, and has been replaced w/ the GTP kit.

I have the Big Red kit on my C3, it is a bolt on and outstanding, if you can still get one of these kits it is certainly one of the best ways to go, the replacement GTP kit on the other hand appears to have some issues, based on feedback that I have gotten.

Haven't heard from any GTP-L owners yet

The 993 is the preferred DIY way to go.

I'm sure the Brembo GTP kits are really nice.

But I did my brake upgrade (993 front with DinFtown/ProBraking 309x32 Wilwood HD rotors, rotor hats, caliper adapters and 993 rears with 930 rotors) for the a little more than the price of only the front GTP kit.

I'm not trying to be cheap. I just think you can get near the same result of the GTP entire kit for a lot less by doing some work yourself. Saving $1000-$1500 by doing a bit of patient searching for caliper sets and sweating some DIY'ing is a pretty big savings IMO.

Tim, That's great to hear but the votes are against you by a wide margin. Some details please about your car and there has been some controversy over the pistons used in the rear calipers, You wouldn't know what yours are?

I agree that the Race Technolgy Big Red brakes are the best I have ever seen while retaining the parking brake. That was why I put them on my own car.
