How much is it worth? - '78 euro 3.0 SC engine with 47K miles

I'm thinking of selling my Euro 3.0 SC engine with 47K miles. My main reason is because it won't pass the referee test (still passes emissions with flying colors) for the state of CA and I don't really have the heart to add all that smog junk (imho) on a flawless euro SC engine. The engine runs excellent, smooth acceleration, decceleration. Recently added new spark plug wires, new valve gaskets upper and lower, fan belt, oil cam lines, and a catalytic converter. About how much do you think I should ask for it if I do decide to sell it?
Heres a pic.:

How come it doesn't get past the referee with a cat?

I think it will be a tough sell in California. Otherwise you could get around $15K for a nice SC or maybe a little more if it is exceptionally clean.

It's an imported engine in a California car, which apparantley is illegal. The only way to make it legal in CA is to put quite a few mods on it, which from what I heard, takes some work and $$. I would rather spend that money on a good 3.2 or 3.6 911 engine that will pass referee testing. Just for clarification, I don't want to sell the whole car, just the engine.

Thanks

Three years ago I sold my 80K Euro '78SC engine with aluminum air box and SSIs for $4500.
Just one data point for you.

can't you just regester the car as an antique and not have to worry about emissions testing that is what I did with my 78sc. There sin't any tests just pictures of the out side of the car. I have no cats or emission devises on my car. I don't have any testing at all done on car and my insurance is 180 a year. Can't beat it! Plus no more inspections.

I don't think you can do that in CA. I may be wrong though. I'm actually just considering selling the car as a whole right now. It's been great, but I just want a car where I know everything about it and know it will pass the required tests. I bought the 911 knowing nothing about it prior to 1995 (my mistake). The 996's look tempting at their price about now.

Hm, swapping a 3.6 into it seems like another rocky road if you are after a SMOG leagal solution. Make sure you have all the information required before spending a lot of money.

IMHO if you want to have a clear-cut situation you are better off buying a stock car that is registered in CA and sell yours to someone out of state. The low mileage should fetch a premium from the right buyer.

Cannot do that in Ca. Any car has to pass smog if it is 1976 or later, antique, collectables, or driver.

If you decide to swap, I have a 78SC motor for sale from my car located in SF. 138K miles, no smoke, runs great, just passed smog last month.

I'm asking $4,500 for the complete motor, I can help with the swap if needed.
