Manual Window problem

Wow first post. Been using this forum for over a year to troubleshoot and learn about the SC that I purchased in Oct. '04. I am amazed at the amount of knowledge that this group has. I have the first question that I have not been able to answer by doing a search or reading a post.

1979 Targa with manual windows. Drivers side window works great, but when it gets to 1/2 inch from top, the crank starts to spin and make a clunking sound. I have taken the door apart a couple of times, but do not see anything that looks broke. There is a small plastic piece inside the door that looks like it controls how far the window will go up, but the problem starts before it reaches that point.

Do I need to replace the entire regulator? Or am I missing something?

Photo of the car is attached ( I hope)

Welcome aboard!! nice looking car you have there, Fellowship.
I have found that the only part of the manual regulator that fails is the soft metal pivot pin, that the gear rack is pivoted on. Sounds like yours is loose and sloppy, that's the way they get right before they fall completely apart.

You can by the pins for about $30 pr, not sure if PP has them or not, i searched for a while and gave up..

Give them a call - the pin looks like this VVV

You may have worn out the rack on the regulator. Before you buy the pins, take the regulator out and look at the teeth on the arm. Are they all there?

The toothy partial wheel shown below is what I am refering to:
