after reading ChrisBennet response, I am confused (again) which is the hood, and which is the trunk.

ChrisBennet,
on the engine compartment cover, (=trunk on a normal car), I do what you described. On the hood, front, I slam.

Definately don't slam the front hood.
A rear lid with a factory spoiler is usually heavy enough to close itself but I wouldn't "slam" it closed either.

Don't slam ANY of them. There is absolutely no need to. Just push gently with the entire flat of your hand (or both hands) directly over the latch until they click.

what the hell, aren't you bunch out to buy snakeskin boots yet ?
it's either that or a leotard to do the wrestling slam... i'de go for the boots... them leotards just don't look right when gettting out of my 911...and exactly why i didn't buy a 996, which requires the wrestling slam...

Fingers on the outer edges only. End of story.

Except the story about the lady and the foot. The thing is, I believe that to the last word. There are so many really stupid people. And too many of them have a lot of money. That fact alone keeps me onry.

My hood-pull handle sticks sometimes, make sure it gets a shot of spray silicon on the shaft so it will retract. A little motor oil on the latch seems to help with smooth latching and I can do it with just fingertip pressure on either side of the emblem.

I had a customer who would use his knee anywhere along the front edge. The hood had about 50 dents in it he wouldn't let me fix. "those are character marks" he told me.

If your latch is adjusted properly (very simple to do), slight palm pressure on both sides will result in the "click" you want to hear.

I still have a steel fromt hood on mine - just hold it 1-2 ft. above the latch and let it fall. Latches just fine - '73 car.
