So, Klober, can you fill us in on what Roy said? I'd love to hear his response to this thread.

niner11 03-07-2006 07:42 PM

Klober23, I'm glad that you have good news to share with us but remember that you don't have the engine back yet.

When Roy promised to ship your engine back did you both discuss who was going to pay for it or when it would be shipped.

My advice is still to give the man written notice of what to do or not to do with your engine. With MM, I don't believe that you can take them at their word. Ask others. If any way possible have that motor picked up by Henry or some other Pelican early in the am. Good luck, Chuck

Lots of info

Would love to:

Its only honest that I note that Roy did talk to me nice during all of these calls and was not a @sshole about it. The quotes are not exactly word for word but I have a pretty damn good memory. They are close.

3/6 Called Motor Meister provided MM customer number, name, and engine to MM secretary. She put me on hold for about 5 min came back and said "they had not seen it yet"

3/6 Called MM 2 hours later after talking to freight company which said it was delivered on 3/2 and talked to Roy. Again provided all information, and was put on hold. He returned about 5 min later and said "yes its here and we have started tearing it down". Told him not to do anything more as the wife was pregnant and was going to wait a few months. Roy said "there would be a bill for what they had done so far but that was fine". He did not give me a price as of yet as he had to see how far they had gone.

3/6 Called MM and talked to Roy again 2 hours later. Asked me what was really wrong...I told him same story. Told him I was going to have a friend come pick up the engine or I was comming down asap. Frustrated I again asked him how much I own him so I could pay. About this time he says "you know what? I just looked in the shop...I see 3 motors in there. 2 we have not touched yet and the other is toar down. I think yours has not been touched yet so you won't own me a cent." Told me I could leave the engine there for up to a year, have someone pick it up or MM would ship it to me. I could tell he wanted me to leave it there. I Said ok Roy. I will call you tomorrow and let you know how I will pick up the engine.

3/7 Called Roy after sending certified restricted letter about our last phone conversation on 3/6 to MM. When Roy answered I said I think I am just going to have you ship the engine back to me and I will bring it back when I have everything figured out. He then sighed and chuckled and said "I have customers that are on the forum and I saw what was said. Just want you to know we didn't touch your engine. Don't believe everything you read. Your getting you engine back just as it was. What ever you wanna do is fine...do it yourself, have someone else build it, or bring it back here" He then started in to how people were telling me to take it to super tech and started to warn me by the sounds of it. I cut him short and told him I knew all I needed to. That was that...I talked to the secretary who confirmed my shipping address.

I want to note a few things. First of all to this point by what I know Roy didn't do anything wrong to me other than lies about the situation of my engine. This does not mean he would not of and I obviously trust you guys and am deeply in debt. I believe if it was not for this fourm Roy would not have been so nice to me and it may have not been ok. This is taken from all of the countless posts from good people on here. As said above in a previous post he knew the Porsche world was watching...and I thank you all!

I had many long conversations with Henery at Super Tech both on 3/6 and 3/7. He knows the story and what Roy started to suggest.

My intention is not to cause problems...but I believe with this many people standing 100% behind what they say is not something you can question. You all helped so things up to this point have ended up good. I think we did the right thing and overpowered a possible disaster for me. Thanks all...and no its not 100% done the engine is not back in my hands and all there.

Having a hard time finding someone to pick it up. Anyone? I did mail roy a certified and restriced detailed letter today USPS.

I'll be visiting family in LA all next week, but all I'll have at my disposal are passenger cars. But if any Pelican's got something to haul the motor away in, I'd be willing to help.

Good Luck!

schubee 03-08-2006 02:31 PM

klober23,

Where do you want it delivered? I can pick it up for you...but can't deliver it to CO. Let me know how I can help.

Regards,

CBRacerX 03-10-2006 01:03 PM

Whew!

niner11 03-10-2006 01:34 PM

Good for you. As long as they don't ship a 2.0 liter back your good to go.

klober23 03-10-2006 01:38 PM

Yes I will make sure everything is as its suppost to be. Considering the motor is all ok (and I know I got off easy!) I still wanted to post I am out 2 solid days of talking on the phone long distance and $510.19 shipping at this point. Like I said I owe it all to you guys and looks as if I DID get of VERY easy, I realize this and appreciate it!. Thanks

"getting YOUR motor back from motormeister...priceless.." ;)

Not defending Roy or MM..but what do you really expect for $3500? When you start to break down the components of these engines you begin to see that what you are getting for that money is a ring job and a half assed valve job. I don't think any of you would look for a discount heart transplant!! $3500 is a labor fee for most shops. MM and parts jerks will be around for along time. Everybody likes to think that they got a good deal..in the end they pass off their mistakes to another unknowing sucker and the circle goes round.
The key to a successful rebuild is a attention oriented shop/mechanic. Someone you can trust completely..unfortunately, thats not cheap.

difficult to argue with the old adage, "you get what you pay for..."

I'm still curious as to what they actually sent back.

And I guess that proves that MM does have their ear to the community (or at least to this board). I wonder why he hasn't come on here more openly - I sure know I'd come out swinging if someone was talking this much crap about me or my work.

strategically, i don't think i'd say a word either. from his vantage point, he sees it's hostile territory..what would he have to gain? it would turn into a pissing contest. were i he, the less rhetoric in general, the better.

"what do you really expect"

- THe problem is that not all 911 owners are as technically adept as most bbs members. The typical 911 owner would likely think that a 911 engine costs about the same to rebuild as most cars... or would have no idea what it costs. They are fair game for the low ball offers.

All I have to say is live and learn. I am young and trying to learn. I am not extremely experienced, you were all there once too...I made a mistake just like many of "technically adept" Porsche owners have on here. I realized you get what you pay for, I was trying to do a good thing and it ended up being the wrong thing to do. Now I know better , and having a experienced Porsche "vet" show me the right way to do it myself from here on out. I don't take those comments as a attack, no worries, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents:) As the update on the engine, its in the back of my truck, in the garage to be unpacked and unloaded tomorrow. Will let you know what the verdict is tomorrow afternoon. :) Thanks guys

klober23 03-10-2006 08:04 PM

Engine is going to be gone over by a fellow pelican along with me tomorrow. Will post pictures and let everyone know. I will make sure the engine is correct. Thanks everyone

As you can see, I read a lot but don't post much. However, I have to admit that I do enjoy a story that has a good ending. Sorry to see the $ of all the shipping but as you said, it's likely saved you mega $ in the long haul.

I'm curious as to what you originally wanted? I saw the 3.4 thing in your sig and am assuming that is the same MM "3.6 conversion" as the $17,000 MM rebuild that was on E-bay (and discussed here a lot until the thread was hijacked to OT). BTW, does any of the shipping invoices have a hand written 300+HP on them or the now infamous quote "it pulls". ;)

Best of wishes that you got your orig motor back with NO "enhancements".
