What's this test port for?

Hey guys I haven't read anything about this item in the pic, is it a test port of some sort?
Thanks
Bob

I think that is for the TDC reference sensor.

Like Greg said, it goes to a TDC sensor. That TDC sensor is not connected to anything else and I've never seen a diagnostic that used it. I think it is what racers would call "extra weight".

Thanks Chris and Greg, I think I'll leave the extra weight since I'm not a racer. Would it be used for valve ajustment or timming maybe??
Whatever, just thought maybe I was missing something.
Thanks

Hey guys - I'm having 3.2 starting issues (Stranded! DME Ignition Guru Help needed) and suspect my TDC/Reference sensor - are you saying I can test the sensor using this port? I thought I had to go to the 3-connector harness near the blower motor where it's wired in.

It must have an intended use or Porsche wouldn't have put it there. Is it also on the 3.0 or turbo engines?

I was just searching some more in the archives and ChrisBennet commented in other threads that it is actually a third sensor, not to be confused with either of the two pertinent flywheel sensors (reference position and speed) and that it's never used (only for diagnostics).

3.2 ref sensor flywheel sensor questions

Of course it's only $50 as opposed to the $130 for either of the ones you actually need! D'oh!!!

Good question Bob. I don't mean to hijack, but:
Can contact closure be seen here at TDC whilst manually rotating the motor?

Maybe it's intended use ended when it left the factory? I.e. maybe the factory used it for something on the engine test stand?
