Kevin, use the drain plug on the bottom of the trans BUT FIRST be sure you can remove the fill plug like we discussed on the phone. If you can't get that sucker out, you ain't goin' nowhere ,son.(Sorry, heard a Jerry Reed song today on the radio.):)

UPDATE!!!
BACK FROM TRIP IS PRETTY WARM GOT UNDER CAR AND WAS ABLE TO FREE THAT PLATE UP.... removed it with some more subtle convincing than before with a pot underneath and caught what was left of the swepco...... while removing it was bound up a bit and i did have to shift a little to free it up while simultaniusly going under and prying a bit at a time on the bottom. now that it is free everything looks great both forks are lined up and the shifter limb is in place in the middle of both with all the play it had before. although the play on the inside where the pole runs in the body has a huge amount of play so i will look into this part hey FSTNBLK!!! Well actually I left a gallon over there in their shop. Once they filled me back up I just never picked up what was left. Is what is left enough for a second fill up?? I still have some left that I drained also probably a quart or so. |
It wasn't clear to me in your post...is your shifting problem resolved now or ???
|
IWill know when I get home and continue i will tighten every thing down place the plate in place and try to shift if is stuck in reverse then it is internal and has to come apart..
|
OK no matter what the thing is stuck in reverse. here are some picks....
i dont see anything wronghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143508951.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143508968.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143508988.jpg |
In this picture the 1/2 3/4 gears are changed by the repositioning of the shift
where is it supposed to be during reverse and 5th? right now it is in touching 1/2 but in neutral. in my above pics the 1/2 3/4 gears are lined up for access in there neutral positions. but it is in reverse,,,,, so did my reverse fork slip? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143509705.jpg |
ANYONE AROUND??????????
Can anyone tell me how to push reverse out manually from the gearbox? unscrew a bolt or push a pin or a combination of pushing a direction?? hello??? |
dynevahn
fstnblk are you available for possible engine drop this weekend? |
Hey Kevin,
You PM box is full but I'm still with you on this. Sorry, I don't recall how to disengage reverse. Someone who know will chime in shortly. They always do. |
OK i got it out of reverse and i now know the whole shift pattern under there and will document later.
it seems that the entire linkage has become so sloppy so unspecific that the only way to shift is by manually shifting from under the car. when i try from the shifter there is just to much play. i purchased these bushings while i did the short shift conversion.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143589649.jpg but the white dough-nut one isn't white in my kit its black and not snug it is kinda loose. also i don't know where these go???http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143589772.jpg i think if i put my original white dough-nut in and am able to put those 2 other pieces in i will be OK.......... |
this is the only diagram i have found and i don't see them in this picture http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143590279.jpg
|
Never mind they go in this guy herehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143590793.jpg
I will take the whole linkage apart now and do it while i can coupler shifter and all.. What a pain in the a$$ this has been!!! |
Great news, man!!!!
Glad you finally got that biyatch undone. Let usknow how the shifting is after you get it completed. |
Saturday is in flux for me. Maybe thursday evening or sunday afternoon? Looks like you may have it figured out by then...get that thing going so we can plan a spring run!
|
Well i finished 3 hrs ago......
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143609252.jpg start with this piece first with a alen and a 13mm socket or wrench it comes off. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143609353.jpg with the back of the shaft free you can now rotate it so that the alen socket is easier to get to. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143609465.jpg these are the pieces that the bushing kit replaces. cup, sleeve, and 2 hinges. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143609610.jpg after some "convincing" the hinge pin came out and i was able to replace the 2 coupler bushings. i put all the pieces back placed everything in the neutral position. and everything seems to work fine. i advise anyone that if they are going to put a short-shift in they should replace all the bushings also. |
Sweet!!!
Now get out and enjoy the car like the good Dr. intended. |
Good job!
