			Great post / write up Mark. Recently my shop did this on my 83 SC, he mentioned the finding  'red stuff' / never seen it before.. old school wrench. Trying to find out what he used to seal it all back. Red stuff = someone did this before on mine. It's running great now, and no leaks. Will let you know what he used to seal it back, probably..more red stuff. Rika | ||

			Mark, As I might have mentioned above. My friend is barrowing my ROW fuel distributer as he has someone rebuilding his. I was told the rebuild kit cost is arround $82 dollars.  I am begging him to get info from the guy who's rebuilding it.  First, where did he obtain the part numbers for the rebuild kits. Second, where did he source the kit.  I bet you wish you had the kit in your hands last week for $82. I'm going to keep pushing for this info!

			Bill: By all means. Try to get the info, please.  Mark: Best of luck. My guess is that it will seal. The Loctite 574 "Flachendichtung" can be translated as "Flat-surface sealer" and indicates to me that it is designed for the very purpose of getting two finely machined/polished surfaces sealed. Is there a way that you could upload the instructions in German? I could translate for future use things like: What thinner to use? Drying-time? Resistance to gasoline?

			There is a short write-up from Chuck Stoddard on rebuilding fuel distributor heads on page 117 of volume V of "Up-Fixin der Porsche." This article, written in 1977, recommended Loctite 242 for re-sealing the unit, with the following caveat: "If you use too much and it flows in the wrong place, you'll seal off a place that shouldn't be sealed, or you will have an interior lead from one chamber to another. If you are familiar with these units, and you use a little skill, you can rebuild one in two or three hours comfortably, and that's $100 (in 1977 dollars) an hour to your advantage." 				Reseal Update
			 
			I managed to get the system put together and pressurized by jumping the fuel relay. As the entire system was void of fuel it took about 15 seconds to come up to head pressure. It made some unusual sounds as air purged from the lines and FD.  I'm proud to announce that after several test runs there are no leaks! I let the engine run till it came up to operating temp and everything appears fine The mixture seems very rich now. I suspect that with all the crap removed from the system the actual volume of fuel is improved. I didn't have time today to fine tune and make some power runs but tomorrow is another day.   Mark

			Good to hear it all worked out  It's always nice to see someone de-mystify something that can cause so much problems. And it's even better when it can save us some cash. Surely this is worthy of a spot in the next "101 projects for your Porsche" book

			Very nice and professional work. I'll be interested to hear of your impressions on how the motor runs compared to before. I believe the Loctite 574 is the sealant used to seal the joint between the tops of the cylinder heads and the cam carriers, is it not? ianc

			FWIW, you would have no problem seperating the halves if you had used the Loctite.  I used it and then pulled it apart without a huge hassle.   Dave | ||
