Wow Mega 15 inch tires in all sizes!

I was browsing the Lotus Esprit forums and they were talking tires. They have issues like we do because for several years they came with 15 inch front and 16 inch rear wheels. One of the posters said he gets his tires from Europe. and suggested that quality resellers would send the tires over and shipping was not too bad.

So I checked the first site I could find in the UK:

Search Results: 205/60 R15 Summer tyres - mytyres.co.uk

And searched a few sizes, holy cow tons of options in 205, 215 and 225.

I dont know how the whole customs thing works but it might be worth looking into.

Anybody ever tried buying tires from across the pond?

Have you tried Roger Kraus Racing? Might be a simpler solution.

I have on some of my cars

The Pirelli P7 Classics in 305 size and 285 size without walking out to the garage to double check the sizes. These are available in only three sizes and I would recommend limiting usage because they border line race!

Good info Erik, despite the fact that you were cruising Lotus Esprit forums.

Yeah I am a bit of a masochist.

They do have some weird sizes over there for some reason.

Unless your going off roading, a 245/60/15 is pretty tall at 26.57". I'd think a 245/50/15" would be the max height on the rear, and that's 24.65".

I am curious if anyone ordered tires from this site and had them delivered to the USA.

Also, are those tires DOT rated?

I will need tires that are US DOT rated.

I am trying to find any tire that will work as a tire for my 7&8 inch wide Fuchs 15 inch wheels. I have to have a tire I can drive in the rain on the highway. Autocross R compound tires are out for that reason. The Pirelli P600 will work but it is not supposed to be used in temps below 45 degrees. I hate to limit driving to warm days only.

I have not ordered from that site, but I have bought a set of Michelin "tyres" from Longstone Tyres, also in England and also carrying lots of unusual brands, sizes, and free shipping. They were sent via parcel post and delivered here by USPS within a week, no duty, no customs hassle.

I looked into getting four 15 tires shipped from the UK for my bmw e30 since there are no good options for 255/50/15 here in the states. I was looking at Toyo T1r tires.

Shipping was around $270 and i don't know what happens regarding customs fees when they land here. The price seemed high to me until i shipped the set of tires i found after that. Four tires from CA to GA was $160.

Thanks Frank. I presume the "tyres" are DOT rated for use in the USA.

I just need something I can drive on the highway in the rain and is not a tread wear 400 or higher tire.

Yikes. UTQG of 600. My current all season tires are 300 and decent but 600 will be real hard.
Please let me know if you find anything other choices.

I will report what I end up with.

Just had a look at that UK site - they have the same Proxes T1Rs that I had run previously on my 15" Fuchs (205/55 and 225/50), but which are discontinued in NA. My question is, are these in production for the EU market, or does this company have a lot of really old stock hanging around??

These folks have a "US" site here Cheap Tires Online, Discount Prices from tires-easy.com

Sadly, nothing like the UK selection in 15" tires...
