The car is performing well. I've made several cross country's in it and drive it two or three times a week with no leaks or issues.

I purchased a LM-1 and adjusted the mixture(what a great tool!).
It was running very rich after reassembly as expected. Good luck on your disassembly and feel free to PM or reply to this thread if I can help in any way.

Mark

Can't wait to get this apart...
I don't see much sense in building a new turbo engine and feeding it fuel with this mess.

Mark-Thanks for the documentation. I hope this turns out as well as yours did.

Pat, are you going to have to glue your pop valve shut to keep it from opening under boost? Just curious, as I am going to turbo my 3.0 also someday.

Mark; what a great thread and well done on a superb job. The gum and varnish unleaded generates in spotlessly clean fuel systems (when the motor sits around for any length of time) never ceases to amaze me, never mind rust on top of that. If pump gas can fill my lawnmower's float bowl with brown crud over one winter, what has it done to my 911's CIS in 23 of them...

I have a very helpful Bosch supplier near me here in the UK so will try hunt down a part number for a rebuild kit and see whether I can order one. If not will follow your advice on rebuilding before we go to Classic Le Mans in July. We also have a very good injector overhaul guy nearby, so will ask his advice on the subject of rebuilding FWIW.

Rookie of the year no question!

John:
The big problem has always been that Rebuild Kits were not really available.
If you have a way of finding a supplier that will sell a kit that includes the thin metal diaphragm, please, let us know.

Great thread Mark. Congrats on a fine experiment gone WELL!

Question: Did you end up thinning the High Tach? Or straight from the jar?

Thanks,
Paul

o-rings

did you reuse any o-rings, or purchase new, and if purchased do you now the exact sizes?

It's been several years since the rebuild and so far it has held up very well......no leaks! I used new o-rings all of which came from a 'generic o-ring kit'. These assortment are commonly available from parts suppliers and bearing supply houses. Sorry I can't be more specific.

OK, I am now sufficiently inspired. I'm off to the garage to pull my spare FD apart!

Well, after pulling mine apart, I realize it is about 10 times cleaner than Marks was. Just a little junk in it. The piston has a few scratches, which I will try to polish out tomorrow; I have some old 800 wet/dry which is great for that when I use it in the parts washer. The little filters don't want to come out (one fell out, the rest are stuck, but I blew carb cleaner through them and they flow OK).

The slots all appear to be clear, and the same size, from what I could tell by holding it up to a light.

Most of the O-rings are disintegrated, so I'll find some new ones tomorrow. I took some photos, which I will post for posterity, along with the reassembly.

These really are remarkably simple yet clever devices.

Pat

Mark, did you ever post your simple procedure for cleaning injectors?
Anyone come up with a source for rebuild kits?

what a great read... I have studied it 4 times and I just want to say thanks to Grezdlitn for posting all the pics. This has been a great help as I'm currently rebuilding an FD due to a frozen plunger from a 76' 2.7 litre. The 2.7 FD is a bit different than the 81SC FD in this thread, but not enough to justify another post. Thanks again...5 star thread IMO

Mark, I know that this is an old thread but would you have taken any closeup pictures of your primary pressure regulator valve when you had the fuel distributor apart?

I just replaced the O rings in my 3.0 liters Fuel distributor

the two larger O rings were19 mm X 2 mm
the 6 smaller Orings were 7 mm X 2 mm
and the two O rings on the air flow meter pivot were 11 mm X 2 MM
