I was searching information on how to rebuild a CIS FD and found this write-up: http://www.cis-jetronic.com/public_doc/07.3-0997-06.pdf

I didn't find any links to this document in this thread (or the other FD rebuilding threads on Pelican). Thought it might be a useful addition to this thread.

Thanks for posting this. But everyone should keep in mind that this is a rebuild of a KE fuel distributor which is a good deal more complex than a K-basic or K-Lambda fuel distributor. These two will have a much less complex internal appearance and structure. Still, the shop procedures would be good to review for anyone ready to take on a fuel distributor rebuild.

I've never opened a KE....

Wanted to bring an exception thread back to the top. I found these rebuild kits on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-3-0-Carrera-Repair-Rebuild-Kit-for-Bosch-Fuel-Distributor-0438100010-/181575128207?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a46b8948f&vxp=mtr

Anyone have experience with the quality of them?

No experience with these kits, but it's nice that they are available for the next time I'm in the FD.
I was able to successfully de-gunk, clean up and re-assemble the frozen FD on my car, but if these kits would have been available back then, definitely would have tried them.

Reviving this thread because it's great, but also to ask a few questions of any experts out there.
On the sealant to re-join the halves, I can't manage to get loctite 574 or 515 here in Australia, nor have I found permatex high-tack, so my options are: permatex aviation form-a-gasket, permatex Indian head shellac compound; permatex permasheild -non hardening and non setting gasket sealant; or hylomar universal jointing compound.
Any recommendations from personal experience?

Also what should I lubricate the o-rings and plunger with on reassembly? I've read silicone lube, but can I just use clean engine oil or multi purpose oil?

I used the old thin metal gasket sealed with the Indian Head sealant and it worked fine, keep the coating very thin as the are precisely machined surfaces.

I used simple bathroom vasoline, clear type to lume o-rings, busted one the first time I put it back together getting in too much of a hurry, but replaced that one an it has been fine ever since.

I used Indian Head, no leaks.
Also, I would just use gasoline as a lube, because anything you put in there will be washed off by gasoline within minutes.

That's true, the lube only helps on reassembly of the piston it is gas washed almost immediately.

dont use sealant.

put a little grease on the Orings, or maybe oil. it helps them to slide in. grease is a little sticky so it may help hold the orings.

Does anybody have any experience with the rebuild kits from Salvox?

I have my engine out and am cleaning up the CIS system. Fuel lines coming off the FD were dirty, so I'm tempted to open the FD to give it a good clean.

The Salvox kits seem to come with everything that is needed.

WTB filter for CIS fuel distributor

In my attempt to rebuild my '79 811SC fuel distributor, I lost one of the small filters - see pic, does anyone have one that I can purchase? The rebuild kits that I've looked at don't include new filters, is there a source for them?

Thanks, Tommy

Lorne, Thanks for checking, I turn my garage upside down and could not find that filter.

The kit I bought over e-bay had a nice new stainless diaphragm plate, but the six O rings which go on the tower part didn't fit. You can purchase the proper size from Grainger. though with a proper kit you ought not to have to.

My first tries produced leaks, which turned out to be because one of these little O rings got dislodged. The tolerances are so close that no matter how much you squish a bit of O ring it will leak. Which is probably good, because just one faulty O ring will also cause problems, and likely leaks. Because my last effort led to leaks not around the rim of the assembly as before, but from one or more of the mounting holes, so the gasoline came out from under the FD on top of the aluminum base part.

I guess I should try the varnish sealant trick, though one ought not to have to do that. I don't know where these leaks are coming from, as the new O rings all were seated - I kept looking carefully in as I lowered one part onto the other to be sure none were getting dislodged.
