Driver's Education Equipment List

I know this list exists on this board somewhere, I can't find it.
Could someone please point me to the thread or post it?
It's been a long time and I don't want to forget anything.
Thanks.

Send me your regular e-mail address and I will send you a draft of a white paper I’m working on. It started out as trailer spec for Pelican rs911t and evolved into much more. It has nothing about car prep, driving technique, etc, it is just about how to go to events. It is a MS Word.doc and is too big to go through Wayne’s Pelican system.

Yes, there have been several good threads on DE car prep.

Best,
Grady

EDIT EDIT EDIT - lame me mispelled my e-mail address.

I made my own list-I take my collapsible alum floor jack, a couple of jackstands, a rechargeable compressor, a good assortment of tools, etc.

Take an evening and brainstorm-that's what I did and probably take too much stuff, but it's funny how I keep loaning my stuff out to others at DE's, so it is useful at sometime.

I pack my car with way too much stuff, but it makes me feel comfortable that I can take on quite a few "challenges" if they arise.

Make a list in Excel so you can add to it and reference it in the future. My personal list has a few columns including:

MECHANICAL (tools, tape, zip ties, etc...)
SAFETY (helmet, gloves, neck brace, etc...)
ELECTRICAL (flashlight, batteries, cell phone, etc...)
CLEANING (Windex, Paper towels, wax, etc....)
CHEMICALS (Oil, brake fluid, brake cleaner, etc...)
FOOD (Water, diet coke, snacks, etc...)
MISC (Spare key, hat, sunblock, etc...)

I check the items off the list so I don't forget anything (it's often a scramble when you are running out to a track event).

I've got to pack the car up on Tuesday, and I've never made a list -- so let me go through this in my head.

In the cabin of the car, I keep:

- A helmet bag with gloves and driving shoes.
- A loose/non-fragile bag, with duct/racer's tape, white polish (for numbers), a first-aid kit, sunscreen, super-glue, hand cleaner, paper towels, tire gauge, spare long-sleeve shirt
- A fragile/valuable bag with spare key, stop watch, extra batteries, cables, cell phone, video camera, digital camera, lap timer receiver and display and laptop computer
- A battery-powered drill with lug socket, and 10mm sockets for my side and nose aero pieces.
- Isaac neck restraint
- Collapsible chair
- Straw Hat
- Lots of water and gatorade
- A bucket, some soap and towels, in case I go into the dirt

In the trunk:

- Breaker bar, torque wrench and sockets for lug nuts
- Spare belts, relays, clutch and throttle cable
- A roadside emergency kit with flares, other stuff
- Tripod for lap timing system
- A bag with rivet stuff, electrical repair stuff, fuses, razor blades, pyrometer and a couple spare lug nuts
- A bag with hand tools, including a big hammer and a knife and gloves
- A container of Zip-ties
- Windex and rags
- A plastic box with extra brake pads
- 3 quarts of oil, a can of ATE Blue brake fluid
- A metal box with a metric hardware assortment
- A container of other misc fasteners, washers, and hardware pieces
- Track jack and one jack-stand
- A tarp, if rain is likely
- More towels, for lying on while working on the car
- Visual aid poster and hand-outs if I'm teaching a class

On top of the car:

- Roof rack with track tires, if needed

Thanks guys. Don't think I'll be needing sun block or T-shirts, this event is Monday @ 8am in Talledega AL. Weather has taken a cold front dump and the low/high looks like 19/38*F. This is gonna be tough with the windows down. I'll post some digi pix when we're done if the shivering doesn't blur them all.

Having forgotten things before, I have streamlined my system a bit. First, I leave much of my DE stuff in a big plastic box in my garage. Second, I keep my log book tucked inside my helmet. Third, I use magnetic numbers and I keep them attached to the underside of the trunk lid, although if you bring contrasting color duck tape, you're still able to make numbers at the track. The only other thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is to remove your snap-in hub covers. Not all DE techs will insist that you remove them, but I usually do anyway.

and don't forget to leave you ego at home....

I stopped being an instructor as some guy's egos were getting in the way of their driving talent.

Nothing personal, just remember you are there to have fun and learn. Its not a race.....

this isnt like its new or something. im old and in the way now. finished 3rd SCCA back in 1977 w/datsoon 280-z. finished 2nd overall in state in 1987 w/SCORE 1/2-1600 car in the dez! numerous score and hdra races to my credit or discredit??? yes driving on PIR takes concentration-ability-skill-and practice. turn 1 eats alot of peoples egos with its subtle but very dangerous transition. last PCA event watched carrera gt and 944 swap ends and just miss wall, i mean just miss wall! but ya know what...........racing with more dust in your face than you can comprehend, mexican booby traps, either wet/cold/hot temps, cholla -rocks flying in your face and lap- TROPHY TRUCKS TRYING TO EAT YOU for breakfast/lunch and dinner.............makes going to a closed course very very very enjoyable! and actually quite peaceful! plus there aint no chicks cheering you on in the middle of the dez! keep trying to explain that to my kid!!!LOL! clean is good............dirt gets old!
