The verb in german is rennen, so presumably to run or more accurately in this case.. to race...

race is effectively tacked on.

racing

How about just a single "n," as in "Rensport." OK spelling, or considered a typo?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.

German English Dictionary

Ren {n}; Rentier {n} [zool.] reindeer

Think of 'renn' as run, and 'rennsport' as racing.

As stated above: "Renn" is short form of "Rennen" and the closest translation would be "race" The short form is only used in combination with a following second word such as Rennauto = racecar . "Ren" with a single "N" would be just a typo.

As you can see German is quite an easy language. You can just combine many individual words into one long single word such as "Rennautofeuerloescherhalterschraubensicherungsklam mer" which would be "race car fire extinguisher mount fastener safety clip"

I've always wondered what those huge long words were. One wonders why they would do this. I mean, if we did it in English it would be racecarfireextinguishermountfastenersafetyclip. Wouldn't it be easier if they kept their words separate?

No, the German version weighs less and is more efficient since it doesn't use unnecessary spaces.

Nomination for best wisecrack of the year (so far).

So as far as combined German words go, anyone want to tackle Farfegnugen (sp?)? And if the Porsche marketing women had made such a blitz, what would have their slogan been?

Fahrvergnuegen = Driving pleasure
And when you drive on the Autobahn: Ausfahrt or Einfahrt has nothing to do with passing gas.
It hurts to still see "Fuch" though! Or: "That's a nice "Poorsh"

Milt,

I’ll second John’s quote for “Wisecrack of the year.”
This should unleash our Britt friends for comments about
our “superior” 911 HeHe. Who can leak more contest?

Had I been better skilled in German grammar it would have
been Rennhaus. Rennenhaus translates the “speeding
house” as if the shop was racing down the road, but that
was OK. Being grammatically incorrect, everyone at the
Factory remembered it.

When we were thinking up our new name, this then current
’70 Porsche Poster was the inspiration – well … it may have
been gestating for several years.

"

by Jürgen Lewandowski/Verlag Stadler.

Everyone should have a copy of this book.
Lewendowski, Jürgen; Porsche Plakate Posters Affiches;
Verlag Stadler Konstanz, 1984.
Porsche posters (particularly
the Erich Strenger) are another important part of Porsche history
and tradition. Something else recently lost.

I have the original poster but it won’t fit on my scanner.

Here is the Rennenhaus letterhead on an envelope:

Someplace in Pelican archives are the Rennenhaus Porsche posters.

Best,
Grady

Grady,
That is as close to Porn as you get !!

The MFI pumps and T-Bodies are cleaning up very nicely. I'll get a German expert to look over the parts and tell me the condition.
I have the 2.4 S and T MFI systems...remember?

As to long german words:

"Himmelherrgottsakramentzefixhallelujascheissglumpv erreckts!!!"

Actual quote of a swear word used by Porsche mechanics in Weissach. Used when scraping knuckles while wrenching.

Klaus
