I need input on mp3 player interior mods

I've noticed many times over how passionate people are about not pimping their interiors. I've searched the forums over and over again for installation pictures of Ipods to no avail. So if you got em, please post em. I have a custom interior, but I think it's very tastefully done. I've tried to think about how Porsche could have maybe done better with their mid year 911's and added a few mods here and there.

I just got a Crutchfield catalog, and saw that they have good adapters for iPods. The good ones will use the Line Out, not the headphone jack, and will also power the iPod. You'd need a head unit that has a line in.

I haven't done much research, but there probably are head units that already have interfaces for iPods, and might even allow you to control the iPod from the head unit itself.

Otherwise, if you just want a unit that plays MP3s from CD, those are plentiful. My daily driver uses a Sony MP70 head unit... reads from CD or CDRW, and sounds pretty good. It does have a line in, but I don't use my iPod with it.

I plan on trying to find a decent low cost head unit with a line in for Stinky later on, so that I can use my iPod with it. Good way to take your favorite tunes with you.

Alpine does... perhaps some others. Unfortunately, I suspect that most of the compatible ones are a bit too flashy for my tastes

Buy an Ipod compatible head unit. is saves a lot of wasted energy

I have an Alpine head unit (ipod compatible) and alpine inter-phase to run the ipod.

The ipod is in my glove box.

I would offer photos put everything is tucked away and you cannot see the install. I can remove the ipod from my glove box if I wish to use at the gym or make changes. Plug and play.

Forget cds and and cd changers. Endless tunes in the size of a wallet.

It looks like your in dash unit is modern and would have an aux input in the back. Get the Pin out diagram for this and hack a wire together to plug into your headphone jack of your MP3 device.

You then tuck the wire out of the way. I retain my stock look though.

These guys don't and you'll find tons of cool ideas. Carputer?

I run an Ipod and various other cheapo mp3 players. Even my son's Motorola itunes phone. I find it best to use shuffle on Ipod since it's pretty dangerous to scroll and hunt.

I've got the original Becker Europa II in my Mid Year car and I ordered a cable that I found about in a thread here that lets me plug and play an iPos into the back of the otherwise stock 1976 head unit. Originally, the outlet was to run an independant cassette player. Haven't installed it yet but it will easily allow me to put he iPod pretty much anyplace I want it. I don't have a center console (and don't want one) so the glovebox is the likely place or possibly inside the ashtry if I remove the little cigarette stub out tab.

I don't have the info with me right now but so a search here, the company deals exclusively with the old Beckers in Pcars, MB's, etc.

I think the best deal going for ipod use in the car is the 2006 Alpine Head units with the new "Full Speed" feature. I've tried all the other add on adapter stuff with dismal results if your anything of an audio buff. No separate converter box needed as with previous alpine units, just a special cord($30) that allows you to plug in your ipod and tuck it away. It will automatically charge and the alpine is specifically designed to make selections easy. Prices range from $180-350 from crutchfield. Currently with the top of the line ($350) model they include the cable.

Off course some are going to say you don't need a radio.....but I get to drive my beast everyday so the wonderous burble/roar of my fabspeed is just a volume knob way. Sometimes you just can't beat cruising the canyons/pch to some music

No mounting for me. I just tuck the wire under the carpet when not in use. I plug it into the headphone jack. All the wire hooks up to is a custom plug made from a hack article that pertains to my Head unit. It's old and doesn't play readouts from the Ipod. The Ipod thinks that the Porsche is one big set of headphones. The non skid cover keeps it still on the seat or I just put it between the seats if I have a passenger.

Turn off, unplug and stow in the glovebox with the faceplate. Low tech.

I'm sad though that the cover burnished scratches in my Ipod. You may try a different one.

I think the ultimate cool would be a radio delete and just a whip for the Ipod and play the car that way.

Hi!

I have a Mini, so I just use the ashtray and make sure I have the Ipod clip attached. It seems to work nicely. The top of the Ipod rests against the top of the ashtray/dash, and the bottom of the clip rests on the lip of the tray bottom. The ashtray has a bit of spring tension that is strong enough to hold the Mini, but doesn't seem to stress the door/ashtray.
