993 caliper conversion: heat shield questions

Hey all

Starting on my 993 caliper conversion (wilwood front rotors, 930 rear rotors) , and I was wondering... did you guys mod your heat shields or remove them entirely (F+R)

It looks like the rears hit the 930 calipers pretty good, but not sure on the fronts yet. Off to the local auto parts store for some stuff.

Remove, helps improve air flow around the rotor.

You can keep the fronts if you want but the rears need to be removed due to interference.

Thanks guys

Install is going quite well. The damn powder coating is flaking in a few spots though. The shop that shipped em back to me did not isolate the calipers well enough inside the box. Looks like a touch up or two is going to be necessary

Is there a dirt shield on stock 930 caliper ?

Will my ball joints self destruct without them? I just omitted them, and the rotors are on, but if I must I'll pull the rotors trim the shields a bit and pop em back on.

No, the shields keep water and road debris off the back side of the rotor, is really wet weather it allows a tad quicker response and keeps stones from geting jammed betweem the rotor and caliper. The outer sde is protected by the wheel.

Leaving them off allows somewhat better cooling in dry conditions.

right, I don't drive in rain much or on gravel but as a compromise I left the fronts on and rears off (I had to anyway), cooling on mine is a non issue.
