Hi All, First post here, so be gentle...
I have just stripped and serviced my starter and I think my starter solinoid has died. First off, have I fitted the solinoid the correct way around? The only wire from the actual starter, I have going to the shorter of the thick studs on the solinoid. Is this right? If so, it must be the internal contacts of the solinoid, as I can put 12v on the shorter of the thick terminals and the starter wizzes into action but 12v on the longer stud does nothing. I want to know if anyone has ever stripped the solinoid? I have taken the 2 small screws out of the end of the solinoid but still it won't come apart? Thanks in advance! |

HI get the jump leads to a battery earth to the starter casing, live to the large stud on the solinoid, then a short wire from the live to the spade terminal on the solinoid, should kick out and spin, to take the solinoid out remove the screws, pull out so the drive gear comes out of the case and hold it out, then lift the solinoid up to unhich of the lever,it is spring loaded!!. the solinoid is not stripable, fit a new one. good luck
regards mike

Hi Mike, Right I was doing what you said but was putting the small spade terminal to ground not live. That was because when I had the solinoid off the starter, I put live to the short thick stud and ground to the spade and it kicked in and out. This obviously didn't work once fitted to the starter. Brilliant, I will give it a try in the morning. Thanks Mike!
