I purchased a used GHL header which I plan on installing in the coming month. My only question is this.. do I have need to replace the wastegate exhaust pipe?

It should have come with a flanged short elbow (~5" total length) wastegate exhaust pipe. Warning : it sounds like a jet taking off!! I love it!
![]() But since you bought a used set, maybe the PO wanted to keep it?

I didn't get that as I purchased it used.. I guess I'll have to find one.. Any thoughts on a specialty hot rod muffler shop being able to do that?

The trick would be to first FIND the flange.
I had the Euro exhaust on my 77 930 prior to my GHL's and the WG pipe was rather long (~10-12") & plumbed into the muffler by way of a slip-fit. I don't remember wht the WG exhaust set up is on the 87 930. Is there any way that you could cut the WG flange off of your stock set up to use as a base for your new separate WG exhaust pipe? If so, just weld on a 90 degree extention so it angles down (to cut down on noise).

Here's a sketch of it, I couldn't find a picture anywhere... It's #27 on the sketch (PET)
![]() So it does have a muffler tied to it. I figured a straight pipe would be loud as heck... especially before the turbo... So again my question is do I still need it or can I use my stock wastegate pipe.

Do you have #27 in the picture? If so, just bolt it on and you're done.
Is there a fitment issue with the new GHL's as far as the WG muffler coming into contact w/ the WG base pipe (coming from the collector on the header)? If, however, you don't want the WG muffler, it looks like you can cut the muffler off (leaving as much pipe connected to the flange as possible) essntially leaving an elbow on it, un-muffled. It all depends what you want.

In reading some posts, I have read that it seems you need to remove and replace it.. . That is why I asked the question. The PO (of the headers) said that you can retain your stock wastegate muffler (as pictured in #27) with no issues. I would like to keep it as it points downwards... so should there be any flames that come out, they are not directed upwards or into the bumper..!

OK, I think I see what you were worried about...
You were wondering if you have to re-index the WG muffler on the WG to avoid hitting the new GHL's (fitment)? I don't *think* you do, but I don't have the WG muffler set up so, I can't be sure. But even if you did have fitment problems you could just cut the muffler off (leaving the 90' elbow on the muffler side) and re-index the muffler to the WG flange avoiding cotact with the GHL's. I originally thought you wanted to go with the "jet engine on takeoff" sound out of the WG! ![]()

If need be you can pick up a wastegate dump pipe on ebay. I think I paid about $60.00 for mine and the quality/fit were great.
