Someone broke my Teeth!

Be patient... yet another 915 synchro question. I am planning to have 1st and 2nd synchros rebuilt... getting the usual clashing as they wear. I plan to replace the synchrohubs on both 1 and 2, as well as the 1-2 slider because I found these when I drained the tranny oil last year...

Q: Does the guide sleeve commonly wear out? ie, this thing:

What symptoms would one expect, or is it something you have to ascertain once the tranny is disassembled?
I would prefer to have all the parts ready to reduce down time. I have already added synchro rings, brake bands and thrust blocks, as well as gasket kit, to my project list.

PS. I didn't break these. Car was autoX'd by a PO... I suspect one too many forced shifts.
I'm a dentist, you know. I FIX teeth!!
