another central locking question...
Ok, I have a question about my central locking system. (I know, I know – I DID use the search function but couldn’t find the same problem I’m having)
My central locking system went haywire – the button on the console only works about 1 out of 5 times and the light stays on most all of the time. The LED’s on my door lock posts are lit up all the time (dim) If I try to lock the doors from drivers side with the key, sometimes they work and sometimes the passenger door will lock then unlock. I have read the posts about possible broken rod in door which keeps them from working, but that doesn’t explain my console switch/light and my door lock post lights being on most of the time. This started happening right after a big rainstorm. I do get some water in my passenger rear floor after a large rain, but not sure that would have anything to do with it. Any suggestions on what to check?? Do I need to replace my console switch unit? Or is there anything in the door that might have gotten wet and could be replaced?? Thanks or your help!! |

Gremlins?
Mine worked off and on then after re-installing to put in a stereo, the light won't go out but the lock works? Never use it so maybe I should disconnect. Is the light suppose to be on?

I noticed when I started up for work this morning that the central locking switch light was lit. It usually only lights up when it's pressed, or when the headlights are switched on. It still functions OK though.
It rained quite heavily last night - and the car was outside. Can any central locking "experts" chime in? There seems to be a pattern emerging here... |

I had a very similiar problem with mine. After months, yes months of trouble shooting I finally found the culprit while I was adjusting my window. I had a slight tear in one of the wire bundles leading to the driver's side microswitch. I opened up that area (of the tear) and found that the wires inside where arching between each other. I cut out the bad sections plus a little bit and soldered them back together and covered each wire individually and then the bundle. I haven't had a problem since I fixed it.
My advice is to trace each of the wires on your passenger's side from the central control relay that is located underneath your dash on the passenger's side. You can access the relay from the trunk after removing the fresh blower motor's false bulkhead (or whatever its called). It seems the source of your problems are coming from the wires on the passenger side that lead to that box. Yes, if there's a problem with one side of the system it will affect both sides. Good luck, Matt

I have no experience with the system.
My install is almost brainless. A viper alarm and some relays for the door locks + factory door lock solenoids and linkage. Beep and the locks + alarm triggers. Wild 1st guess based on 2 threads is that it's a ground problem. I'd find out where the system control ground wire is then jump it back to the battery to test. If no joy then the damaged harness info is great imo. Also, I guess it's a multiplex system where a scope would help locate where the problem is?? Even a $75 short finder tool if it's beyond the brain. I'd also consider having a junk yard spare controller around. maybe a pro who's seen the prob at the shop will jump on ? .
