Resistor for Pertonix Kit?

I have a 73 911 with 6-pack Webbers on a 2.4L engine. I am installing a Pertonix kit, MSD Blaster Coil, new plugs and plug wires.

Do I need a resistor for the Pertonix kit instead of the MSD coil? The
MSD coil has a primary resistance of .7 ohms so I need to check and
see what the total resistance I need. If it is 1.5 ohms, will the MSD
resistor will enough and where can I order the part.

Greg

You shouldn't need anything. Just replace your points with the Pertronix. No more point problems-priceless.

Greg,

What ignition system are you using? A stock '73 would have used the Bosch CDI. The CDI in that year was triggered by the points, which only had about 420 mA flowing through them, which is so little current that Porsche deleted the capacitor from the distributor because it wasn't necessary: the points would last for thousands of miles without replacement because they just weren't carrying any current.

If you have a Bosch CDI you will get better performance if you stick with the stock coil. I'm sure that sounds like BS because of all the hype surrounding aftermarket ignition products but Steve Weiner actually tested the different coils on an engine dyno and showed that the original coil made a difference in higher horsepower.

The new plugs and wires are a good idea, be sure to set the gap to the correct spec depending on what ignition you require. The MSD blaster coil does not require a ballast resistor when used with either an MSD ignition box or the Bosch CDI.
