1968 911L Barn Find Update - I might have bought the last one made...

I've been going through some books to learn more about my recent purchase. According to Chris Harvey "Porsche 911 In All Its Forms" and Tobias Aichele "Porsche 911 Forver young", there were 14,159 A series 911s built between Sept 67 and Aug 68. This includes coupe, targa, T, S, L, ROW, Normale, etc.

11805001 - 11805449 (911L fixed-head US specification, Porsche body)

I have 11805445......

So, I figure unless those other 4 are still around, I may have the last surviving US spec 911L coupe.

Cheers,

Great find!! I have always checked the v.i.n.#'s since I realized on the day I sold a 1977 T/A the last digits were 000004 which was the 4th Pontiac made in 77', probably the first T/A that year and it was a 4spd car too, fast forward 10yrs later I bought a new 1995 Bronco and the last digits were 00031. Several months ago I had seen a guy advertising 2 1965 Mustangs for sale and they had sequential vin #'s.

At the other end of the spectrum, my '78 911SC is chassis number 9118300015, making it one of the first SCs built, but knowing SCs, there are probably a few ahead of it still surviving and leading a happy life.

Henry,

That is outstanding!

Keep the detailed images coming. We want to identify every little detail that can be corrected.

I read your comments on the 911 race video last week. Patients. Your “L” isn’t the basis for a track car. If you want a track 911, get a LWB (’69-’71) that someone else has done much of the work (and cost).

Best,
Grady
