Great suggestion Mac! I will speak with Tony.
Also, Brad & Mac: can you both list & describe with p/n, web maybe to see, where to get these items/ideas you both are saying. Basically, in trying to figure this whole 'kit/system' out, I am in need of also figuring out how to either make or have made a guage arrangement for the dash, maybe clock hole, that is real time showing the AFR for both cyl banks. Specifically: 1. what guages can I get to show (needle w/ digital would be cool...needle for quick visual and digital element for tuneing/seeing where it actually is running), that being said, I am open to any and all guage suggestions... 2. can either or both of you please send me pictures of your set- ups so I can see where and what you guys are saying...a picture is worth a 1,000 words you know. This is help/info is awesome!! This board rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only good things to say about Tony's kit. The instructions were thorough, the parts fit well, and the Megasquirt CPU is reliable & flexible. Tony was very helpful on any question I had. Mine ran very well the first time I started it up after the install. I have tweaked the Megasquirt tuning parameters using a laptop and it runs like a dream. I haven't put it on a dyno but it is obvious that the HP has measurably increased from the old CIS system.

I am totally sold on Tony's Kit after doing just what your doing in collecting info. It's right there after my sons braces, a new roof for the house, new tires for the 325ix, and the list goes on.................

For pictures of various installs try this link to Tony's site:
http://www.bitzracing.com/gallery/index.html I'm running the stock airbox. Some have cutup their airbox for a less cluttered install, and MB911 sells a custom made aluminum airbox that looks really nice. I'm also running the PLX wide band O2 sensor with the LED display. The gauge is unfortunately rectangular and wouldn't fit easily in one of the circular dash holes. Mine is mounted using velcro on the top of the console, not an ideal viewing spot, but nice at night because the LED display is a little bright and might be somewhat distracting if it were mounted higher. The LM-1, sold by our host, seems to be the most popular judging from posts on the board. I believe they offer a circular gauge that might be a better fit. The Megasquirt ECU will only accept a single O2 sensor input, so having one on each side is a bit of overkill. Some have done it, you could wire in a switch that would let you run off which ever one was selected. The other could still visually show you the AFR of that bank of cylinders via a gauge. I've seen a post here from someone that had a gauge made that displayed both readings. I believe it was analog and might be slower to react to changes in the readings. Of course you'll have to buy two wide band O2 sensors/controllers and have a bung welded to the right exhaust just below where all three pipes come together. If you're dealing with a 911SC, the stock O2 mount is on the catalytic converter and thus is already measuring the AFR for both sides. Do a search here on wide band or wideband, you will get lots of hits. The LM-2 and PLX sites also have lots of good info. -Mac |

Yes, I'm in Ridgefield, CT about 40 miles north of NYC. My car is basically pure stock other than Tony's kit. I did cut down the airbox and use a KN filter. Tony's instructions, which you can download directly from his website, assume that you will use the stock airbox and filter. Tony was very helpful in suggesting places to get the parts to do this tweak. Pictures of my conversion are on Tony's website but they are a bit dated. At the time, I was planning on keeping the engine compartment heater fan so the pictures on Tony's site show that. I have since backdated the heater and dumped the fan. All of this is just a clean-up of the engine compartment that becomes much easier when you install the kit. I will post a picture of my latest configuration soon.
I have ordered a Palm IIIc with a plan to use it as an auxiliary dashboard readout of real-time engine data from the Megasquirt. I should have this going by the end of the summer. Ralph

Good to hear folks are happy with the kit.
With regards to O2 sensor, you can upgrade the kit to use the LC-1 WBO2 sensor/controller. You don't really need the LM-1 unless you want to have an AFR display on your dash. As Ralph mentioned, if you have a Palm Pilot with a serial interface, you can pull the O2 data (or any data) directly from the MegaSquirt an have it displayed on your Palm Pilot. If folks have any specific question about the kit shoot me an email. Address is "tony @ bitzracing (dot) com ". Cheers,

I installed Tony's kit about 6 months ago. The quality of both the components and instructions are first rate. Tony has never seemed to tire from my constant questions. My SC started and ran from the beginning with very few problems. I started with the basic kit and recently upgraded to the WB O2 sensor. Just today I started the car with the Megasquirt 2 daughter board. Even though I have "left the Tbitz farm", Tony has answered my questions concerning the differences between his system and the new. I wish all Porsche related service providers operated with the same sense of devotion that Tony has adopted.
The comment about tuning should not be overlooked. The system requires a commitment of time and research to dial in the correct settings. I have been tweaking the ECU since January and have not yet reached Nirvana. Tuning the system for optimal performance is not a trivial undertaking. Jim S.

jmshepard- thanks for your comments! The question begs to be asked as to what you are running now...you can pm me with your info if you wish...however, why so long to dial in your system? Do you have other issues ongoing with your engine/set-up? What is your complete set up? Can you email me some pictures so I can see how you have it? Is it due to few miles since install thus few different conditions to get it set up to accomodate most or all conditions i.e. altitude, ambient temp, hilly conditions, traffic...

tbitz on 911SC
Add another one to the list of Porsches using Tbitz racing EFI system.
First rate. Started the very first time and was virtually dialed in with Tony's default tuning file. It's fun to go run datalogs and feed them into the tuning software to analyze and suggest new tuning parameters. I'm running a 1980 Euro 911SC with MSD ignition, European Racing Headers and an M&K 2 in 2 out muffler. BIG improvement on power, throttle response and overall feel of the engine.
