How do I remove the pressure sensor?
How do I change out the pressure sensor on the 3.0 engine? I got a crows foot behind it but I cannot get it to break loose for the life of me. I almost broke a breaker bar.
I used a strap wrench to try to get it to break loose but it only spun the top part arond and did not move the base. It seems the A/C compressor is in the way and I really do not want to have to remvoe that just to get to this piece. Any ideas?

Put the crowfoots wrench down before you ruin your engine case.

Yeah, I give up. I'll have it done when I take it to the shop to have other work done.

SlantnoseSD:
You may want to do a search on removing the Oil Pressure sending unit. If it is identical to the unit used on the Carrera 3.2, you may want to read up and then decide how to approach the task. The sender is threaded into an aluminium block that is threaded into the engine casing. If one applies too much pressure, there is a chance that the aluminium block will strip where it threads into the engine case--bad, VERY BAD! FWIW, I changed mine on my Carrera 3.2 a couple years ago. I DID NOT reomve the aluminium block that the sender is connected to first as many will suggest. In hind sight, I would remove the block from the case first regardless of how much work was involved. I got lucky. I applied a good amount of muscle to the usnit and it snapped loose so ubruptly that I was sure it stripped out of the case. It did not. It was a real pain in the butt to torque down the new sender with all the brackets and such in the way. Again, I got lucky. You are going to have to make up your own mind... Good luck. Mike |
