Alternator/Voltage Regulator
I've been having problems typical of a bad voltage regulator (bouncing tach, headlights dimming, seat belt light on and off, etc.) Measured voltage - normally at 13.2 volts while running, spikes up to 17 volts during "episodes". So I need a new voltage regulator.
Call the local P-car shop (not a dealership); they inform me that they can get a new VR, but it must be used with a new alternator (cannot be used with a used or rebuilt one). This doesn't sound right to me. Maybe I missed something in the shop's explanation, but from my searches, it seems that other Pelicanites have replaced the VR without replacing or rebuilding the alternator. Any thoughts or insight is welcome. Thanx,

In my 86 it was an internal unit.
But if you're in there anyway I would do both as the coils don't like the high voltage. They are probably worried about warranty issues. A local place charged me $200? and I did the swap.
